That was great defense by Melo. Dirk just heaved one up and got a lucky bounce. With three very tough games coming up the Knicks will officially be out of the playoff race starting next week.
I do hope they win against the Bulls though.

I'm surprised Knicks fans still support this team :oldlol:

In all seriousness though, there's nothing you could really do about that if you were the Knicks. You got your best player guarding the best player on the opposing team. D was tight, Dirk just has that shooters touch

Even though it was proper defensively, I took great joy in seeing Melo's hands drop to his side as Dirk rose for his shot. Proving just how indefensible that was.

Either keep the hands up and risk a foul or drop them down, don't risk the foul and pray he misses.

Even as a fan of Carmelo's, I feel zero sympathy for him. He pushed to get what he wanted (being THE star in a major city) and it is backfiring on him. As they say, the grass ISN'T always greener on the side.

Too bad we only have a few more years left of watching Dirk game winners.

DMAVS41
02-25-2014, 01:16 AM
Too good. After a game that saw a very balanced Mavs attack with Dirk allowing his hot teammates to keep it going...

He's good enough to pull off the game winner.

Lucky bounce? GTFO...that is what happens when you have a damn near perfect shot. Great defense by Melo though...too bad Dirk's shots can't be stopped from there...he either makes or misses.

Nah, you just don't watch enough Mavs games.

He's taking more shots per 36 minutes than his career average. He's taking more shots per 36 than he did in 2011...and only .4 less per game overall than 2011.

Tonight was a strange game in which Calderon, Ellis, and Carter how it flowing...and they basically gave them shots the entire game the way the Knicks defended.

What more do you honestly want? He's taking like one less shot per game than his career average.

He's giving the Mavs 22/6/3 on 50/41/91 shooting...61% TS...with his highest PER (24.7) since the 07 regular season

And he's been the best player on a team that is now 12 games over .500 in the brutal West.

To date that has been an amazing year for both the Mavs and Dirk...

A pf does not "run" the offense. That is what a pg does...

I honestly have no idea what you are talking about.

Also, why does Dirk improve the team defense when he's on the floor...as he has done his entire career...improving his teams defense by 2 points per 100 possessions...and 8.9 points on offense

Wait, let me guess, it was Harris that was running the offense...or no...it was OJ Mayo last year. Or wait...it was JJ Barea....or the 6th man....

ROFL

Just for comparison sake...

Rose improves the offense by 4.7 points per 100 possession
Rose hurts the defense by 4.9 points per 100 possession

ROFL...dat net negative of .2 points

Dirk is a net positive of 10.9 points

so your actually arguing the point that the starting lineup usually comes out after the first quarter?:facepalm

if you want to use vague stats, without rose in both seasons he has been out, the bulls have gotten worst in defense.

Well, I do question Rose's real impact. I think he found himself in the perfect situation with elite defense and rebounding helping him...and feasted off the regular season putting up numbers we've seen time and time again.

And then couldn't get it done at all in the playoffs at the same level...as he shot 7% TS worse...LOL

I never said Rose sucked...just that he was over-rated and in 11 was on the same level of a guy like current Harden or so...

Yes, shocking how being tall is and advantage in basketball

We don't grade on a curve. All players are measured on impact...we don't take away points from Shaq for being a beast or take away from Lebron for having the best basketball body ever

MVP does not mean best player.

Howard's team didn't win enough.

The Heat underachieved in the regular season and Wade was virtually just as good as Lebron.

Dirk got hurt and missed too many games to be considered.

Rose played great and led the Bulls to the best record in the NBA...he deserved MVP....despite him not being a top 5 player in the league.

Durant, Lebron, Wade, Dirk, and Howard were all clearly better.

The general theory for your best shot at stopping Dirk is to put a smaller quick player who can stay in front of him to force a contested jumper.

If you put a PF or a C Dirk will just pump fake the guy and step to the side to get an open jumper or he will simply drive by him.

officials cost NY the game

It's not only that Calderon travelled, it's that Dirk did too (look how he moves his pivot foot before shooting, he doesn't lift it from the floor but he drags it blatantly).

Refs make the call, NY wins (or has a chance to).

Dirk's shot has the best arc in basketball. That's why it swishes so often, and why he gets the bounce more than most shooters.

best part is dirk understanding the situation for the knicks and not celebrate due respect.

Well you really shouldn't celebrate at a funeral.

Why would he react? He knows he got lucky, he even said it was an ugly shot. Homie didn't even call bank. First game winnner since 2009. Not like he does this regularly.

lol he had one in nba finals :lol

Yeah, good point. Final seconds of an NBA game at the Garden, game on the line. Why did homie not call bank? Why didn't homie just go up to Melo and talk thrash about his mother? Homie really should've showed some more swag. Maybe doing stupid taunts while going "All day, all day, all day" for 5 minutes straight?

Pretty sure he had two haha, had a game winning layup on each side of the hoop, one against Bosh on the left and the other in the flu game against Haslem. Let's face it, there's a reason why Dirk's considered one of the clutchest players in the league

I posted it earlier...he's had like 17 game winning shots based on the accepted criteria since the 2009 season...LOL

anyone who thinks that was good D by melo please stop watching/playing basketball.

the main thing you do when someone shoots a ball is contest the shot. melo failed to do that. horrible defense.

What are you talking about? That was great D. Forced Dirk to be in an awkward position with awkward footing going up with that shot. I'd take that D over a clean shot with a hand in the face any day. Dirk did not call bank. The ball just bounced his way. What a shot! Not Melo's fault for giving up like 4 inches. It happens. Move on.

Dirk did not travel. Even the pickiest ref who thinks it was a travel would not call it in that situation.

Dirk didn't celebrate because the shot was ugly and went in due to a lucky bounce. He said as much in the post-game interview.

Still, that was a great moment when it clanged off the rim into the air and the crowd was ready to celebrate, then it fell down into the net and those half-raised fists transformed into face palms.
