"Its Saturday night at Uline Arena in Washington D.C, February 19, 1949. Eight games ahead of the second place New York Knicks and 10 games ahead of the third-place Bullets, a Caps loss won't mean much in the standings. 6,325 fans turnout to honor all-BAA guard Feerick (10) who finishes with 17 points in the Caps 92-88 win. A Sid Alpert production, starts at the 60 second interval."

So we can archive footage of a 1949 game and you mean to tell me Wilt's 100 pt game wasn't recorded? Myth.

That dribble shouldn't count. It's blatant time-traveling...

Great find. Thanks for sharing. Very impressive video quality considering it is 65 years old.

I love watching old footage like this.

Added to favourites.

Here's the box score for the game (it's a shame modern players aren't as good from the FT line):

Anyone want to tell me whose names I should know from that box score?

Bob Feerick was a star player (all-BAA 1st Team twice). The BAA was the precursor to the NBA.

Fred Scolari went on to be a 2 x NBA All-Star despite being blind in one eye and deaf in one ear. I'm not making this up.

Bones McKinney was another good player for the Washington Capitols.

Meanwhile, none of Baltimore's players were particularly famous. Walt Budko was one of their better known players. Buddy Jeannette played for Baltimore but not in this particular game (he was player coach, I believe). He is in the basketball Hall of Fame.

Is it wrong to care about the game's history, kennethgriffin?

The dribbling and passing are actually pretty impressive. You can tell they haven't really worked out the shooting mechanics though. Some crazy awkward shots.

Yo is it true that they used to hang black people during half time at the all star game for entertainment back then ?

Can't believe 1949 was 50 years ago. Good times, I remember that year like it was yesterday. George Mikan was at his absolute peak.

Modern players are much better from the free throw line. Please stop dissing professional basketball history.
