fmvps? they both have 2

but kobes 2001 title averaging 29/7/6 in a real season without getting bailed out is even worth more than either of lebrans ray allen title or lockout title

in terms of ring value.. it goes

#1 kobe 2009
#2 kobe 2010
#3 kobe 2001
#4 ray allen saved
#5 kobe 2002
#6 lebron lockout
#7 kobe 2000

but as far as mvps...

Man you're getting really desperate here. You've probably typed 1500 words alone in this thread. Pauk, is that you?

We have to eliminate 4/5 Kobe's five rings. 3 with Shaq (included Kings robbery), and 1 because he was bailed out by Pau Gasol. 6/24 in game 7 of the NBA finals? From Mr. Clutch?

Yes, but still. For instance, look at this dunk replay:

http://youtu.be/UqVibdD3UqA?t=1m13s

And now this dunk, also a double clutch reverse fappable dunk:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_P-Sw9RPllA

Seems like 18 years old Kobe could not elevate like 29 years old Kobe. When I see Kobe's dunk contest it seems like he didn't have nowhere near the vertical leap he would later have.

I know that he was still developing as an athlete, but it looks like he had a huge improvement on his vertical leap.

The refs were really harsh in that competition and gave low scores to everyone, the format was 3 dunks and the highest scoring dunk counted. That's why he did some basic dunks. It truly was a strangely judged contest. Chris Carr had a solid first round but kind of lucked out by going first. He received a 44. No one else came within five points of that total despite turning in comparable performances. The first dunker is often the litmus test for judges, frequently leading to a skewed score in comparison to the rest of the competitors, for better or for worse.

Anyhow, to clarify, the first round was judged as a whole, not just by a "highest scoring dunk" format. It was a routine of sorts, like figure skating. The final round featured two solo dunks, with competitors taking the highest score of the two.

But Kobe shot 6-24 in a game 7 in the finals. He can't handle pressure + competition when it really matters. That's why he's beta.

at the time he was only the 2nd guy in history to even pull off a between the legs dunk

that won him the contest.. that dunk in todays standards woulda been like a 720For the sake of clarity, it's often forgotten that Orlando Woolridge was the first NBA player to pull off a between-the-legs dunk in a dunk contest, followed by Isaiah Rider ten years later. That'd make Kobe Bryant the third NBA player to pull it off.

Still, I actually think you're on the right track in terms of the innovation at the time. Dunking tends to evolve in spurts. Some great dunkers come along and establish a new era with unique new dunks (Erving's free throw line, Rider's between-the-legs, Wilkins' windmills) then there's often an era that follows where it's players more or less imitating or replicating those jams. It was still fun for me to watch, but that's largely of the entirety of which the 90's contests were made (with some Harold Miner sprinkled in for good measure).

It wasn't until the 2000 dunk contest that the next dunking revolution occurred (courtesy of Vince Carter). The clockwise 360's, the tweaks to the between-the-legs jams, the elbow hangs, and the variance on windmills and free throw line dunks were all introduced to the mainstream that evening and it kind of set the stage for the next decade of dunking. I think we still might be waiting on the next step in dunk evolution. After Blake Griffin's first attempt in 2011, for a split second I thought he might have been it.

Anyhow, on topic, Kobe Bryant performed very well in my opinion, for what was occurring in dunk contests at that time. I was pretty hyped for his between-the-legs dunk when it first happened because again, as far as I knew, Isaiah Rider was the only dude who could pull it off (I didn't know about Woolridge's dunk back then). Completing the between-the-legs off the lob though, would have really added another level to his performance.

There's absolutely no pressure in a dunk contest, retard. Nobody gives a shit about the dunk contest after it's done and nobody cares about the winner. Do you not understand that even if a player wins/loses in the dunk contest, it doesn't do anything to impact their legacy?

this explains the dozens of guys for the last 10 years missing 5-10 dunks before every made attempt ( that 9 times out of 10 in practice they can do successfully

and also explains why lebron never joined

he said it wouldnt gain him anything... ( which translated ) means he would only lose something if he failed

which he would

people would just assume hes choking again

ofcourse theres pressure in a dunk contest

:facepalm
They miss them because they mistime their attempts, which they don't even get right on numerous attempts while practicing. You do realize that they do it to get more points, right? They try to pull off dunks that they're not entirely capable of pulling off Even just jumping a fraction of a second before they should ruins the dunk. Faulty lobs happen in practice all the time as well.

You are definitely among the top 5 of the ISH GOAT retard list for sure.

There's absolutely no pressure in a dunk contest, retard. Nobody gives a shit about the dunk contest after it's done and nobody cares about the winner.I don't think I'd want to compare a dunk contest to the NBA Finals, but I definitely believe dunk contest offer up a fair bit of pressure. Being alone on a stage in front of millions, hoping to complete something very difficult on the first attempt, is strange and unique, particularly for basketball players who are used to being one of ten out on that floor. I think pressure most definitely plays a role. We can say that winning doesn't matter, but it still can be a very stressful situation. No one wants to make a fool of themselves out there.

As to what that means for players who do or do not decide to enter, I can't say. I am not interested in that portion of the discussion. I just wanted to assert that yes, I believe the dunk contest can be a very pressurized situation, often leading dunkers to make mistakes they otherwise would not make.
