View Full Version : I'm not black; i love hip-hop; what's the protocol on the n word when in a song?

This is pretty simple.

So many of the songs I hear and sing along with have the n word in them (with an "a" at the end). When I'm singing the song while walking around campus, do i have to bleep this word out or something?

You have to scream it out.

When you're not around black people, say it all you want.

When they are within earshot of what you're saying, and they aren't your close friends, don't say it.

Never understood why it became popular or acceptable. It's roots are from a disgusting and disgraceful part of human history. Regardless of whether or not people think the meaning has changed why use a word which has such strong derogatory connotations.

Maybe someone can shed some light on this subject for me?

If you're with your black friends make sure they don't mind. If they do mind or you're around black people you don't know, either leave it out or substitute it for other words like playa.

Source: I'm black and personally don't mind but I know how these things go

college campus is tough...think I would actually be more scared to say that around some white liberal feminist types than black people...they'll freak out on you lol

you're probably better off just not singing out loud period...any of the lyrics...it is unlikely anyone wants to hear your white ass rap

Yeah, why are you "singing" along while walking around campus and topping it off with a few racial expletives. Don't be that guy.

Well it's not just about when I'm singing along on the sidewalk.

It also has come up at parties when they play the song and concerts. It's everywhere these days.

Well, I actually did go to college and I do have a job where I meet people and hang out beyond getting the shit knocked out of me by strangers and I don't remember the sing along parties. Usually we drink, get high, and watch sports while music is playing but I don't recall the sing along portion of the night.

Yeah i don't know. Some people like to dance. Some people sing along. Some people dance while singing along. I'll do any of the above depending on how i feel that night.

I honestly cringe and legit feel badly whenever you make pretend about your life here. It's like I can't even make fun of you because you're already so pathetic it just makes me feel guilty and deflated. It's like bullying special needs children. There's just no winners in this scenario.

*sigh*

Enjoy your vodka and cranberry at the next wild rager you hit up dawg. I know you get shit poppin like a boss. We all know it. We believe you dude. We have total faith in you.

That's the funny part. I don't have to make fake threads filled with pictures about my fake life because I'm a pathetic attention seeking whore college drop-out with no life, no friends, no career, and no wife.

People that say it usually start saying it when they're a kid and then it becomes a habit. They don't think about it when they are that young, and they don't care to change it when they are older because its obvious there intention isn't malicious.

Because the people using this word are uneducated ignoramuses. You make too much sense for these whoppee cushions. You never see any Chinese people walk around calling each other "*****$" or Hispanics calling each other "$pics" because they are educated enough to realize the derogatory nature of these racist words. Black people I guess need another 170 years to get this nasty word out of their system before learning that its stupid to use when referring to each other. Call it slave mentality. Their great great great great grandparents lived under this derogatory word in slavery and today they use it for each other. Smart :applause:

I disagree.

I have called my other friends of my ethnicity (asian) our racial slur as a joke.

I'm sure there are some hispanics who call each other ***** as a joke.

The difference is, my ethnicity does not set trends in pop culture/fashion/style like black culture does. Hip-hop sets slang trends like nothing else on this planet.

Also, part of the reason why young ppl of all colors may use it is because they know that it'll piss older people off. Therefore, using it becomes "bad"...and when you're in high school "bad" = cool.

I don't use any form of n word in my reg conversations but I do use it when I'm quoting somebody's words or a movie scene or comedy act or sumthin.

I also do use it when I'm rappin along to a song or quoting a verse.

So basically, you'll only hear me use it when referencing somebody else's work or words verbatim.

I don't feel bad at all saying it in these circumstances

I'm mixed with it.

It seems like every ethnicity says it now. I've heard Middle Eastern, white, Latin, and even Asians saying the word. If someone says it in a demeaning manner then I'll speak up, but at this point I don't even bother trying to tell people not to say it.

You can say ***** if you want, just don't come out making it sound forced and nervous and shit :oldlol: :oldlol: :oldlol:

Say that shit with confidence and don't give a ****. So long as you don't have any hateful intentions behind saying it, no one should give a **** unless they are retarded.

Youre allowed to say it if you are white on the outside but feel black on the inside. Kind of like dudes who say god gave them the wrong body and proceed to use the ladies room.

As long as god made you wrong you pretty much can do whatever you want.
