Or at least from a particular country. Never say never, I read that Netherlands average height is already 6'0 and those of the young males of the Dinaric Alps are almost 6'2. . With 28% of them taller than 6'3.

Looks like a race of basketballers waiting to be discovered.

Humans includes women, you know?

In this context I mean men only. What's stopping us growing to 6'6? 6'6 is still a "healthy height range", only those close to 7'0 and above tend to have knee problems and such...

The correct question is what is prompting us? Humans are a bit larger now due to dietary improvements. I don't think that's gonna push the average height to 6'6 tho.

They say the dutch can average 6'3 in 50 years

when they talk about people being shorter in the past it's actually like a 2 inch difference over hundreds of years. The reason the NBA has taller players now compared to 60 years ago is due to more people playing basketball now a massive jump in height.

Hopefully. Eugenics is the answer. Fatties and manlets pollute the gene pool

My guess is no, or at least anytime soon because life is not significantly bad in terms of finding mates for people who are shorter. If nobody takes them, then they find someone else who is short. Humans would have to be in an environment where being really tall is very crucial for survivable. With the population increase, if food becomes harder to come by, then it would be more beneficial to be smaller, and smaller people would have a higher chance of surviving. (Like pigmy animals.)

It's still possible though. If being really tall because a world wide fad, where every girl wants to have a tall bf to the point where they rather be alone if not, then that would have a huge influence on the average height.

The same if having a huge nose became really popular. In a 100 years human noses will be noticeably larger.

No.

Average human height will probably increase a lot, as developing countries gain the resources to take care of their people. I doubt there will be much change in the nice, egalitarian nordic countries.

we will still have asians , arabs and other "low" life forms, so average height on the world basic will still be pretty much the same........only whites and blacks will continue to dominate the world and the NBA.........the brains and the muscles

No, there is no genetic advantage to being tall, and shorter people have longer life spans on average.

In the Netherlands being below average height actually increases your chances for playing the sport people in the country actually care about.

never in a large population (nation or world). But smaller populations in the past (the Karakawa indians of texas, etc) have self-selected for height and been much taller than their neighbors.

Height isnt just nutritional access, but you would basically have to have short people not be part of the breeding population. Positive assortment and all that jazz.

No evolutionary reason to get that big. We already run shit. As others have said, marginal growth, but extended lifespans.

Evolution tends to work better in isolated situations as changes in the gene pool can actually increase meaningfully over time. With the way we humans are able to get across the world, and mate with literally anyone else, it ain't happening. And, if it does, it'll be too far in the future for it to be worth thinking about.

If humans could master genetics, then I don't see why not.
