Actually, it's not the polar vortex and looks to stay south of Maine, but you will get some cold air and we look like we are going to go over 3 times as much snow as a normal winter.

For this coming Cold Air coming down the North, Warm Air is going to come up from the Gulf and that mix is why there will be so much snow and ice.

If you asking about recent fluctuations in the jet stream, yes the North Pacific has been really warm as high as Siberia and Alaska and then the jet stream has been dipping south and punishing the midwest and the northeast.

Last month was the fourth warmest January on Record, even if we in the northeast have been hit.

http://thinkprogress.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/NOAA-temperatures-January-2014-638x493.gif
Despite some miserably cold weather along the eastern half of North America, this January was one of the warmest ever recorded globally. (http://thinkprogress.org/climate/2014/02/21/3318531/january-2014-hottest-recorded/#)
According to data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), this was the fourth-hottest January the world has seen since record-keeping began. Meanwhile, NASA’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS) compiled its numbers and determined this was the third-hottest January since its records started in 1880.

Fla is better
Better fresh water sources compared to Cali sucking the Southwest dry.

Just from a water resource perspective. I got love for the bay and Nor Cal in general.

The humidity and the summers are brutal tho. I visited Miami/Ft Lauderdale last May and the beaches were awesome and the water was suprisingly warm. I could def live there any months other than the months of June through August.
