Edit: Reread the article again. He is not being monitored when he meets with his lawyer, it's when he meets with a family member. And the main thrust of the article is that he blurted something out with an FBI agent in the room. He sounds like he was perfectly aware the FBI agent was there.

You cant complain about this guys actions (breaking the law, damaging lives illegally, etc.) if you cant keep to the rules yourself.
