It becomes less of a necessity when you have three superstars at different positions. Not to mention the traditional big man has become extinct in today's NBA. There's less need for an interior shotblocker nowadays.

Rick Barry,Dirk,Bad Boys Pistons and of course Jordan and Pippen. Center and PG is the overrated positions on the court. If you have great wing/guard play you can win with strong solid bigs.

It a reason why Bosh, Lamibeer, Gasol, etc... have more rings than Dirk,Garnett, etc... cause of great guard/wing play.

A.c Green,Rodman,Grant = 12 rings

Barkely,Malone,Kemp = 0 rings

Stop having such low standards. There has been zero ether of any kind in this thread by anyone, except maybe

Lebron could use a rim protector, you guys are creepy as ****.

:oldlol:

As for OP, '12 Miami and '13 Miami are the only teams to win without a very good rim protector since Jordan's Bulls teams (all six of them). I don't know of anyone winning without one prior to that, although I don't know much about what happened in the 70s. But while Miami doesn't have a dominant defensive big, they do have Birdman coming off the bench, who is at least decent with interior defense, Bosh is at least an average shot blocker, LeBron is surprisingly effective at protecting the rim when he wants to be (he was excellent in the Finals last year) and can play at least passable defense when he switches onto bigs, and Wade is still the GOAT shot blocking guard. They compensate pretty well as a collective for their lack of a dominant paint protector. I'd honestly be more curious to see how far you'd have to go back in time to find a team that won championships while being one of the league's worst rebounding teams - their rebounding, not their interior defense, is their greatest weakness.

Is he supposed to put up the same numbers he did before? :lol He's on a team with several other stars with the ball in their hands all the time, of course his numbers are lower.

Whenever he plays without Wade or Lebron on the floor the offense can still flow through him, along with the fact he is an elite shooter. If you've seen games where Lebron sits or Wade sits, his role is much greater and has even hit game winners in this capacity.

Lebron has choked in the playoffs too, obviously it hasn't wrecked his reputation. What is your point?

Lakers: Bynum, Gasol, Odom. Three seven footers. Their paint defense was great because of their collective length.

'06 Heat had Shaq fresh out of his prime and still fairly dominant, and they had Alonzo backing him up. Their size and rim protection was elite, don't be ridiculous.

LOL I think it's hilarious the way Laker and Kobe Stans try to lower Pau's impact on the defensive end. Was he a physical defender in the mold of an Oakley or Rodman...no...but Gasol was still pretty easily the only player besides Odom (who was easily had the most impact defensively on the 08-10) who had had a signficant impact on the defense besides Bynum who was injured half the time.
Kobe Bryant coudl have chucked himself to 40ppg with a decent .560ts% and that team would have gone nowhere without Pau, Odom, and to a lesser extent Bynum. The Lakers front court was ridiculously stacked defensively with having one of the best post scorers in the league with Gasol.

Lamar Odumbb
03-03-2014, 12:06 AM
Bosh averaged 1.6 blocks in the playoffs last year.

Pau averaged 2.0 blocks in the 2010 plyoffs.

Not much difference unless you count .4 as some big difference.

Holy shit     :facepalm :facepalm :facepalm

You have been denying that Bosh is a rim protector, which I would agree with, but then proceed to go full retard by saying Rodman was for the Bulls. Rodman averaged 0.4, 0.3, and 0.2 blocks per game in his 3 seasons in Chicago. If that is a good rim protector, then LeBron had good rim protection from Wade (1.3), Joel Anthony (1.3), Turiaf (1.1), Bosh (0.8), and Battier (0.5) in the 2012 championship. Heck, 2012 Mario Chalmers averaged as much (0.2) as Rodman did in 1998.

For the record, the highest bpg from the Bulls were:
1991: Pippen with 1.1 (Jordan was 2nd in blocks at 1.0)
1992: Horace with 1.6
1993: Horace with 1.2
1996: Luc Longley with 1.4 (Salley was 2nd with 0.9 but only played 17 regular season games, and averaged 0.1 in playoffs; so the 2nd best blocker was really Pippen at 0.7)
1997: Longley with 1.1 (Dele was 0.6 but only 9 games played; and Jordan was 3rdwith 0.5 - but essentially 2nd considering Dele barely played that season)
1998: Longley with 1.1 (Pippen with 1.0)

When it comes to Lebron threads, I don't even have a side in these discussions anymore. You have the idiots who will never give him his props, while the other side is the idiots who make him seem untouchable, like the idiot Jordan fans do with Jordan.

Most of the decent posters find themselves in here telling each side how wrong they are.
