:confusedshrug:
if you do, then you are incorrect. As great as LEo was in Wolf, MM's performance in DBC was just too good to not win. Heck every critic had MM as the favorites for the Oscars.

I preferred Leo and Chewitel to be honest but overall body of work, McCon was def the best

After watching Dallas Buyers Club, I believe Matty Mac is the greatest actor today.
1. Matty Mac
2. Bale
3. Leo
That little part that Matt had on Wolf of Wall Street is good comparison of the two, side by side and Matt looked like the star.

Am I the only one who finds Bale overrated? He has had some nice performances but most of the time, he's either hamming it up or really bland

I think he's a very good character actor and quite good at transforming himself into the person he's playing. When he's doing big movies like Batman or Terminator I find him a bit more boring.

Ejifor > Dern > Mcconaughey > DiCaprio = Bale
All great performances though

Leo's trying to hard to win an Oscar. It is so obvious.

he's not trying too hard it's just that his obnoxious fans are claiming he should win every year. He was really good in WOWS, but just not good enough. his best scenes were the one where he was on ludes and had to crawl down the steps and the scene after that trying to help jonah hill's character from choking

Bale was amazing in The Fighter, a performance that surprised me.
I really enjoyed Dallas Buyers Club, but I think McConaughey was really helped by True Detective being on the air as people were voting. Also, a guy fighting the system to buy AIDS medication is a more heroic role than a guy fighting the system to steal millions from small investors and show his contempt for anyone else. I don't feel DeCaprio was robbed, but if he won, I wouldn't feel that McConaughey was robbed. They both were very good.
Also by the time you get the last 5 performances, you can always make the argument someone got robbed. I don't feel in any this is a Dances With Wolves over Goodfellas situation.

Now that you say this, the other disadvantage DeCaprio had is, he was in essentially a comedic role, which doesn't get as much respect in terms of difficulty.
The scene when he's on the Lemon Ludes is a classic.

That just means amazing acting from Leo. He was supposed to be playing a scrub upstart and MM was playing a hotshot superstar in their scenes together-for one of the most charismatic actors in the world to downplay his charisma enough to get outshone by an opposing actor-now that is world class acting right there.
The reason for the awards is this.
MM played an activist with AIDs.
Leonardo Di Caprio played a badass CEO drug addict mysoginist.
MM won for political reasons only, just like how that shit Disney movie won out against one of Hiyao Miyazakis greatest films.:facepalm

Leo played the same rich d-bag he's done before with Aviator and the Great Gatsby. He lost b/c he wasn't as compelling on screen.
and :oldlol: at sucking Miyazaki off. It's not even close to being his hands down best movie and Disney even distributed it the US under their Touchstone label so its not like they would have pressured anyone out of voting for it. If anything they would have WANTED it to win over Frozen b/c Frozen has already made over a billion $$$ worldwide while TWR has made just $2 million in the US and $114 million worldwide.

It's easily one of Miyazaki's best, and much better then Frozen which was basically tangled II and had some good classic disney songs but a bad script and story

Preface this by saying I like Leonardo DiCaprio, I like his movies but I've never got the hype.. is it just me or?

He does a good job in good films made by good directors. But he's not the greatest actor of all-time, nor is he the greatest of his generation.
I like him though as well

This is like 1 in 22 movies that Matt McCon is good in. Leo has been consistent with his roles and is diverse. Basketball Diaries, Titanic, The Man in the Iron Mask, The Beach, Body of Lies, Catch me if you can, The Aviator, The Departed, Wolf of Wallstreet,,,,, Besides DBC and The Wedding Planner what has McCon done that even puts him in league with such a diverse actor like Leo?

That kind of argument really doesn't apply to the Oscars.
If McCon did 99 bad roles and then one great role, and Leo did 99 good roles and then one very good role, McCon would and should walk out with the Oscar.
I hate these lifetime achievement awards. Leo has never been snubbed on the level of a DeNiro for Taxi Driver or Pacino for The Godfather Part II.
And even if we're using this logic to boost up Leo, he still would not have been ahead of Chiwetel Ejifor for 12 Years.

DiCaprio stans needda chill da fck out. The Oscars don't hate him; he has 4 Oscar nominations before the age of 40.
Who else has done that?
-Marlon Brando
-Jack Nicholson
-Al Pacino
Dude will win eventually

Exactly. Leo also has all the exposure in the world. If anyone needs an Oscar, it's some of the less known actors.

I was about to bash Bale until I read this and remembered his performance. Bale can be really, really fvcking great when playing the right role.
I would have given him the Best Actor for Aviator over Jamie Foxx for Ray, and I would have given him Best Supporting Actor for What's Eating Gilbert Grape over Tommy Lee Jones for The Fugitive, but all other "snubs" were legit.

I haven't seen Gilbert Grape so I can't really judge his performance there but he would also have to beat Ralph Fiennes who was simply amazing in Schindler's List. So I'm not really sure if he'd truly deserve that.
He should have won for Aviator though.

matthew was very good in DBC, but he would not have won if he never played in true detective.
