View Full Version : Better overall player: Carmelo Anthony or Paul George

Eric Cartman
03-03-2014, 02:00 PM
Earlier this year when Paul George was on a tear people were claiming almost unanimously that Paul George was a better player than Carmelo Anthony.

Now that the water have cooled down a bit on the ocean hype that was on Paul George earlier in the year I ask you guys, who is the better player, Melo or George?

EDIT: Some Melo vs George discussion by the ISH community in the past:

Melo. The gap in defense isn't enough to make up for the gap in offense imo.

I'd have to agree with this.

Didn't we just have this thread three or four days ago? Melo's underrated now, but Indiana's defense is so dominant (literally the best or one of the handful of best D's in league history depending on your metric of choice). There are really only three options here:

1) PG is better than Melo because of his defense (no slouch on offense, especially with his improved handles this year).

2) Hibbert is a top 5 or better player because of his defense.

3) Vogel is the GOAT defensive coach by a large margin.

Which is it? :confusedshrug:

Melo is by far the better offensive player by a massive margin. He is a consistent go-to guy you can depend on and PG is not that. He also is not nearly enough of a playmaker to close the gap between himself and melo.

On defense, I dont see PG as an elite defender, but as someone who has great interior defense on his team so he can afford to play a man close and gamble because worst case he has Hibbert guarding the hoop. its the same mistake he made VS lbj as the game winner and I see him continue to do it this season.

I also feel that a part of Melo's selfish style of play is because his team is just that ****ing awful that he has no choice. I would take Melo all day over PG. However it would be curious to see what type of player Melo is when surrounded by some talent. Does he feel the need to be "the man" and dominate the hell out of the ball like he does now? Or does he play within the offense and look to draw coverage off teammates to allow for them to get easy buckets? I guess we'll know once he goes to LA or the Bulls.

2 and half of three, I still like Thibs more, and what Clifford has done is amazing. I just don't like Hibbert because he should be about a billion times better on offense. Melo > PG and I honestly don't think it's very close. Swap them and the Knicks get even worse and Pacers are immediate favorites.

Neither of those guys are gonna win alone.

Melo has wore himself out trying to win on this shit team, and Paul George is a star that is arguably the best player on the team. I say arguably because while he might be the best on the team, I think Hibbert is more important.

That being said, since I already know the results of Melo playing here alone, gimme Paul George.

Melo offensive game is way better then paul george. He can create his shot anywhere on the floor and his rebounding skills and post play is better. Now playmaking there both alright at it and when it comes to defense Paul george plays better defense on perimeter play but melo take it in the post. Melo is so strong and a beast down the block. Melo > George

Wasn't this same thread up like a week and a half ago?

Melo is better. Without a doubt, not even debatable. Maybe in two years, but Melo is #3 behind Lebron and Durant.

PG isn't that great.

Still have Paul 3rd but a case for Melo can be made of course. Sooner he is out of NY you will see people praising him.

How do you guys think

Hill / Stephenson / Melo / West / Hibbert

They wreck every single team until the conference finals, beat Miami in 6, and beat anyone that comes out of the West in 6 games or less.

Ok yeah an argument can be made for Paul. He just doesn't score enough for me to consider him ahead of a guy averaging 28 a game.
