Positive. People seem to have this weird way of being nostalgic and forgetful at the same time. Plus they'll probably enjoy congratulating themselves on voting in a black president - can't do that if you consider him a monster.

He will probably have a positive legacy. Financial regulation and healthcare reform will probably be viewed as wins in the future.

Whether he deserves it or not he's going to have a positive reputation as the first nonwhite Pres. The US media is socially liberal, I'm not saying they're economically liberal but they are definitely socially liberal and they will promote Obama
Positives will include the affordable care act.
Giving hope to minorities
Getting rid of don't ask don't tell and other things to help the gay community
Modernizing and streamlining the military
Reducing the budget deficit
Negatives will include keeping place the Bush tax cuts for the bottom 98%
Not reinstating Glass-Steagall
The prosecution of whistleblowers
Violating the fourth amendment rights of Americans
Secretly bombing countries we are not at war with, though to be fair that's basically all presidents at this point
His administration's interpretation of due process
His failure to enact campaign-finance reform
Stuff he gets credit for but probably shouldn't
Leaving Iraq, we tried to stay in Iraq but the Iraqis wouldn't give immunity to our troops
Eventually when we leave Afghanistan for the same reason as above
Stuff he will get blamed for but doesn't deserve blame
Increasing the total debt of the United States
A weakening of the US of global position

We'll have to revisit it in 5 or 10 years when we can see the effects of Obamacare and his other work, it's too soon now.
As a moderate-liberal Californian (so probably "raging liberal" to most), I'm really quite disappointed with Obama, and see him as George W Bush v 2.0, particularly regarding foreign policy. At this point in time I don't believe he was a good president but it is too early to say for sure.

Obama foreign policy scares me he nearly got us in a war with syria with his "red line" crap and world leaders like putin are embrassing him.

His legacy will probably be two fold;
1. First black president.
2. Healthcare reform.
Outside of that, his presidency has been fairly forgettable... which typically bodes well for a President's legacy.

It's way too early to say. At this point in the reign of George Bush things that still lay ahead were
A campaign to privatize Social Security (going on about this time in 2005)
Hurricane Katrina
The financial crisis.
The Surge still lay ahead as well.
One thing that if it works out seems like it will be part of his legacy, his thawing of relations with Iran and Iran dropping its nuclear weapons program. Lots of big IFs on that one.
There's like 45 months of his presidency to go.

Why do people here mention obamacare like it is a positive? Everybody I've talked to says it either is another monthly bill or nearly doubles the premium from their employer. I agree that turning down people due to illness is wrong but that can't offset all the clusterf*** this bill has caused.

Health care reform. I don't think we'll be able to expect much progress or break from the norm with Presidents here on out. There's too much ideological gridlock and big money to get much done these days. I'm surprised he got health care to go through honestly.

So you mean "worse, then there's George W Bush"? Not clear on who you think he is worse than, but it is apparent that after him comes W. So maybe "He's worse than ________, THEN there's George W Bush" as in "Don't even get me started on that guy."

First black president, he didn't have a chance to be appreciated as a president when he was born. No matter what Obama did, people would still try to demonize him.
Deny it all you want, but it's the damn truth. And I'm not even black.

A thriving US auto industry is also a good thing. I think that will be part of Obama's legacy. Bush started it with temporary bailout and deserves credit for that, but the final decisions were left for Obama's turn. (http://www.nytimes.com/2008/12/20/business/20auto.html)

All these Libtards on this site still thinking it's "cool" and "hip" to support this clown.
Obama was an inexperienced community organizer from Chicago who could have done different things with his presidency, but all he did was divide the country even further. He will go down as one of the worst presidents. Look at his approval rating right now...in the tank. Not sure why the idiotic majority voted him a second time unless it was rigged.

He got a second term cause the Republican Party is a huge joke.
As to OP, he'll be remembered as a mediocre President who might get remembered fondly for his charisma and being the first Black President

This will undoubtedly be what he is most remembered for (barring any major, unforeseen and extremely unlikely events that could somehow overshadow that). Second most notable trait of his presidency will be health care reform. After those two things, it might be the subsequent rise of the Tea Party and their efforts to oppose anything related to the man. Not much else that high schoolers a century from now will be knowing him for, I bet.

Bad or average president. Best Democrat president since JFK.
My post JFK president rankings
1 Reagan
2. Obama
3. Bubba
4. Nixon
5. HW Bush
6. Ford
7. Bush jr
8. Carter
not an American but from an outside view it seems like your Congress is ****ed up yet all the focus is put on the President. Correct me if I'm wrong but the congress has relative more power than the head of state, so I don't really understand why so much emphasis is placed on the President.

A legacy of being a spineless demagogue is all i see.
Same. For me his legacy will be
-The first big election that truly showed how much control liberals have over the media
-The power/impact of the minorities with voting, and them being predominantly liberal
-How much bullshit he spewed/lies he said just to get into office
-NSA scandal, continuing the Patriot Act, saying we need to give up freedom for security
Our political system is so ****ed at this point, I don't see any positive takeaway from Obama's terms so far. Had a bad first 4 years so should have been replaced with whoever the public thought was the next best guy. But this "Oh, you need to give him 8 years before making a decision" and all this nonsense is bullshit. Otherwise we'd elect guys for 8 year terms. 99% of the Presidential candidates are hardly gonna make a difference. Get someone like Ron Paul in there and our country will be so much better off.
And with the way our country is headed and with the media being so dominantly liberal, I have a hard time seeing a republican president in the near future. And as someone who thoroughly despises both parties, I think thats a shit thing, because our president shouldn't just be the best liberal, but rather, the best man for the job. Mitt Romney from a candidate standpoint and just considering the situation our country was in was far more qualified than Obama to be the man for the job, but the media absolutely obliterated him every chance they got.

As leader of a free world power he actually makes me pine for the hardline foreign policies of Jimmy Carter. Really.
Domestically things have improved, especially the stock market, but where else could they have gone but up?
Personally Obamacare has succeeded in almost tripling my insurance premiums. Its long term effects are yet to be seen.
I'd rank him above Buchanan, below Harding.

He will probably be seen as good, not great. Honestly, most will just see him as the 1st black president and disregard everything else he's accomplished. Doesn't help that he got cockblocked for the majority of his 2 terms. Still though, he's accomplished a lot of things that most people aren't even aware he did (see Lilly Ledbetter Act, The Matthew Shepard Act, The Credit Card Bill of Rights. to name a few).
