View Full Version : Durant - blandest personality ever?

No trolling, but honestly has there ever been a top-tier player with a more boring personality, with less charisma than Durant?
Shaq was quotable gold. Kobe is a hilariously shrewd wise-cracking smartass. LeBron is comedic and highly marketable with decent commercial acting skills. Jordan had magnetic charisma. Iverson and Barkley were controversial with their "take-no-shit" personalities.
Durant does an interview with Bill Simmonds and calls himself the servant :facepalm
Durant's most memorable commercial has him talking about doodle jump :facepalm
He can be pretty fun to watch when he's not deferring to Westbrook like a coward, but Durant's personality is so boring and cringe-worthy.
EDIT: He also has a weird-shaped head. It's important to mention that.

Yeah, I actually prefer Timmy's style of blandness. It's actually natural and quite humorous.

OP why do you watch basketball?
To fall in love with a charismatic male athlete?
If so, please see yourself to the nearest mirror, and begin to ask yourself some of the tough personal questions you may have been avoiding until now.

Rose is the only one with a case. Durant will be marketed as the face of the NBA

It's pretty bland yeah. But that only matters in marketability.
Sure he is already really marketable because at worst he is the 2nd best player in the game, but imagine if he had Goatbrook's personality. Plus, they play for a small market team. Imagine if OKC Thunder were the NY Thunder...

99% of my posts are purely about what happens on the court. There's nothing wrong with taking a moment here and there to discuss related topics.

That's not bland. It actually a sign of personality... just a different one. A focused, all-about-business mentality.

I appreciate KD's humbleness.
Only simple minded people think that being a braggart is somehow a better personality trait.

I speak as a long time Bulls fan, but sorry, Rose has the most 'disinterested' personality I've ever seen from the NBA.
it's embarrassing to say the least. my grandpa has a better personality and is more entertaining to listen to than durant is. seriously, every time durant is being interviewed i mute the tv, so cringe worthy.

I think Durant probably has a very distrusting relationship with the media similar to Bird during his playing days. Just doesn't see the point of it and wants to keep things on the court.
I do think his on-court demeanor is lacking tho. He doesn't really exhibit the energy you would like from a leader. He has his moments where he gets intense but it doesn't happen often enough. It's one reason why Westbrook is so valuable because he really gets the team going with his energy and competitiveness. You can notice a difference on the court when Westbrook gets into one of his zones where it is just petal to the metal constantly.

OP is right
If somebody wonders why nobody in the world cares about anything Durant does and everybody is ready to jump back at the LeBron MVP bandwagon on the first possible opportunity, this is one of the reasons.
Durant becoming the face of NBA would be like random OKC hick becoming the president of USA.

if durant could market himself better and do the whole throat-slashing debacle again (which i believe was harmless press) and start being a "bad-boy", you actually might find that he becomes a bit more likeable. everyone loves the "good guy gone bad" archetype, and believe it or not the difference between durant and bran in the mvp race is visibility. durant has to play out of his mind for months and drag his team to the best record in the nba in order to be appreciated, meanwhile bran has one good stretch and people are ready to give it to him already.
if everything durant did was put on that kind of pedestal it probably wouldn't be much of a contest, but that comes with marketability and visibility, which durant doesn't have much of.
maybe it's because he's in okc? who knows.

Narrow minded view, basketball is about entertainment, and charismatic.people like LeBron and Kobe make it fun to watch... Having a personality on and off the court helps a lot.
