Scoop Jackson- a clown and a terrible writer
Jason Whitlock- see above.
Skip Bayless- he made his name by basically spreading a rumor about Troy Aikman's sexual preference and continues to make it by just bashing athletes. Perhaps the prime example of the decline in the quality of sports journalism.
Jack McCallum- I generally like him. The Dream Team book is interesting (I'm still reading it), although as stated on another thread, he seems to go out of his way to remind you that Magic Johnson is a phony.
Bill Simmons- At first I didn't like him but he's grown on me and can be entertaining with his random references to pop culture. Although he's a Boston-homer, he does it sort of tongue-in-cheek.
Rick Reilly- I cannot stand this smug POS. How can you not want to punch him in the face? I remember actually reading a good article from him a long time ago about a high school referee that blew a call and later was so heavily criticized and he felt so guilty that he was suicidal. The rest of his stuff for the most part sucks. Grantland does satiric articles meant to be "the worst sports column on earth". They sound like Rick Reilly's articles.

Gregg Doyel. Hack writer. He acts like he knows a lot about basketball but his articles are just media-driven narratives and filled with cliches and hyperboles. Wouldn't be surprised is he posts on ish.

Bayless > Reilly. At least Skip seems like he's working on a schtick. Reilly's self-righteous, pompous drivel appears to be what he actually believes.

Bill Simmons is my favourite by far. Zach Lowe is good too.
I like Sam Smith because he writes about the Bulls and he's always sarcastic as fvck on twitter :lol
And of course, Skip Bayless
On the other hand, Stephen A Smith is beginning to annoy me a lot these days
:coleman:
Cowherd, Skip and Broussard are three I'll turn the radio or TV off for. I actually have Broussard blocked on twitter so his posts don't show up on retweets.
There's an annoying guy in LA named Mark Willard that can turn the slightest thing into the biggest problem ever. The guy reads more into one off the cuff remark or moment then a 15 year old girl on her period.
In LA I like Shelbourne, Heisler, Trudell but there's some others out here that are solid... Nationally I like Stein, Wojo, Berger, Lowe and Simmons.... Simminons more for when he's trying to be funny sometimes he gets a little preachy...

Zach Harper, aka talkhoops on Twitter. He does a wonderful on the CBSSports.com Eye on Basketball podcast.
Also, Matt Moore of CBSSports AKA HardwoodParoxysm.
These two are absolutely funny on Twitter.

Whitlock is like an ISH troll, except he actually gets paid.
I like Simmons because he doesn't take himself too seriously. Too many sports writers think they're mainlining the secret truth of the sports world. Get over yourselves.
Besides Doug Collins and Stephen A. Smith, though he exaggerates a lot, I dislike mostly all of espn's NBA analysts. Jalen Rose, Van Gundy, Bill Simmons etc. annoy the s**t out of me. Really wish the NBA would go back to NBC or even CBS again. I do love TNT and NBA TV's coverage and most of their analyst.

Hubie Brown. He's a former coach, so he tends to break down the game from a X's and O's standpoint. I thoroughly enjoy that.

The fact we're here discussing these guys, means they have done their job. They work in the entertainment business for a reason.

Love: Bob Ryan
Like: Jack MacCullum, Jackie MacCullum, Bill Simmons, Steve Rushin, Stephen A. Smith*, Rick Reilly*, Jason Whitlock*
Dislike: Chris Broussard, Skip Bayless, Stephen A Smith*, Rick Reilly*, Jason Whitlock*, Mike Lupica, Bill Rhoden, Jamele Hill, Rick Bucher, Scoop Jackson, Bomani Jones
Neutral: Mark Stein
*: I loved Stephen A. Smith when he was at Fox Sports Radio. He turned into a loud mouth schmook when he went to ESPN. He took all his qualities and turned them all up to ten and made a caricature of himself.
Loved Rick Reilly when he had the one page articles at SI. He had a nice little niche but turned into a poor man's Bill Simmons when he went to ESPN.
Jason Whitlock was interesting years ago but his "me against the world" attitude has turned him into the sports journalist's version of Al Sharpton: A loud mouth know-it-all that seeks any opportunity to get attention.

I actually like Jason Whitlock. He's not a troll at all. He's just a contrarian. But I think of him more fo a culture commentator, than a sports journalist. But I agree he's not a good writer.
Bill Simmons is by far my favorite. He was really born to do what he does. He loves sports so much and you enjoy feeling that energy from him.
I also really loved Ryen Russillo when he did those NBA ESPN podcasts a few years ago. But I guess his drinking problem got the best of him.

pure gold.
I'm a fanboy of the Great Bomani Jones. The brotha just oozing with coolness.
He's probably the only one I enjoy.
Most hated: Dan Le Batard
I disliked him even before LeBron joined the Heat. If you ever see him on PTI or ATH, dude just stutters, stumples and gives shitty ass analogies.
Ironically, those two works together a lot. Opposites attract?

Bomani Jones is the opposite of cool. His Panky Rang bit that he does on ATH is excruciating.

Simmons - don't like what he says, how he says it and his face
SAS - worst person to ever be on television....comically full of himself and his smug ways don't even work ironically or as satire
broussard and bayless can suck my dick

Skip Bayless is also horrible because of how he didn't bother to check which Eddie Johnson got arrested.

I like Bill Simmons. Skip Bayless is entertaining to listen to. The stupid stuff he says most of the time makes me lmao.
I hate Chris Broussard. The way he says LeBron is annoying as hell. "LuBRAAAAN" or "LeBRAUN". I just wanna duct tape that dude's mouth, put him on a chair, tie his hands in some underground place and torture him. He doesn't know what he's talking about half the time.
