They couldn't because they don't use the tools not to get hurt. Humans could gang up on something with spears and throw stuff... but chimps don't hunt that way. They gang up on things that are smaller than they are and use their superior strength. There could be 10 chimps going after a silverback but one or more of them is going to get seriously hurt therefore they would never attempt it unless circumstances were unbelievably dire.

But in fun... probably 3 could do it.
