If he does go to NYC in a GM role I want to see him rebuild the Knicks completely. I want Melo to go to Chicago anyways. But I want to see him trade for/sign/draft his own star player and build the team completely his way.

You really think Phil can build a team?
As much as I love him, he is the guy that get a championship team over the hump. He is not a guy to build a contending team. Not saying anything bad about that because it is much harder to get a team over the hump than it is to build a contending team.

He's 68, but I agree lol. why do people assume that he'll strive in a GM role that he's never done before?
he could prove me wrong tho

it's gonna be like mike holmgren was for the browns.
Comes in, old, lazy, not gonna work hard, has nothing to prove, is going to bring his buddies and kids/nephews of his buddies into the organization, get paid millions, and leave without doing sh*t.
Have at it NY.

Better than the situation in Cleveland. Get your lighters and butane ready in a few years when Kyrie walks.

:oldlol: how can you say the knicks situation is better then the cavs?
Same records but a humongous difference in payroll.
And that's a lot of talk for a franchise that's about to get dumped by melo. :oldlol:

Because it's Cleveland. The entire city is cursed, and hasn't won a title in anything in forever. Once Kyrie leaves, it'll be like Orlando - get a star, watch him walk. Plus the owner cares more about his casinos than his team. At least Dolan cares about the Knicks and will do whatever it takes to turn the team around.

I think in general people are assuming that who he is will attract power behind the Knicks again. It's a big market and putting a guy with 11 rings in power tells players that there is a winning attitude there.

That is the most retarded way to look at it. You are saying its a guarantee you sign more than 1 player better than Carmelo.
He sleeps, eat, shits basketball. Unless any of you do that for the past 30 or more years, I suggest we keep our opinions to ourselves. That's someone who can possibly change any franchise. Regardless of age and where he currently is.

Nobody is questioning whether or not the guy knows basketball, it's a question of whether or not he's actually going to be motivated to do something in a position that he has no experience in. He has nothing left to prove, he's not really motivated to get back into the NBA, he can care less if this is his last gig.
I really doubt Phil would want to resign Melo anyway. He's just not his type of player. I doubt the first move he'd want to make is sign Melo to a $120M contract.

If Melo goes elsewhere, it's definitely going to be through S&T and the Knicks will have the necessary draft picks to rebuild under Phil, plus the cap space to sign free agents.
2016 is the year I'd be looking at if I'm a Knicks fan. KD in a Knicks uniform looks mighty good.

I just don't think Melo and the Knicks are in a good situation together. Melo on the Bulls would be perfect for both teams. The Knicks need to start over and rebuild again.

Phil brought Shaq to the Lakers. Phil exudes confidence and has a legit history with this team. There's a lot of money waiting to be made in NYC should the team win a ship.
I suspect there'll be a lot of crying in here as well. So be it.

Phil is not dumb. If he takes this job, he will not start fresh. He can not do it. He knows how the media and fans are, especially in New York. He knows that the window to get a team playing for a title is small so he will not start fresh or all over.

I heard he was leaning on making the present team better by adding the right pieces, but then he found out about your demand and he is going to rebuild.

Shaq played for the Lakers before Phil got there. It's more like Shaq attracted Phil to the Lakers.

How is it even possible for the Knicks to 'start fresh'? They have no talent, (besides Melo who may or may not bolt) only one first round pick for the next three drafts, and no salary cap room. A full rebuild will take 2-3 years of bottoming out, and won't even pay dividends unless they strike gold with their first round pick next season.
Plus Phil has never been in a situation even remotely close to this, how do we even know he can stack up with some of these young GM's who are ruling the league right now?

They were discussing this exact topic last night. I still say Melo leaving would be the best. Phil can start completely fresh and build from the ground up. Melo can go to Chicago.
