they sort of will, by not re-signing more than half of them. but i agree, MD shouldnt be help solely responsible, but his lack of attention to defense is not acceptable at this point. No NBA team should be allowing teams to score 120+ points against you every night. and that starts with coaching.

hire lionel get some defense on that squad... get kobe back + a nice pick this year and theyre back in some sort of contention... also get nash off the books.

Should coaches have to teach defense though? Howard, Gasol and Kobe should know how to at least play man to man defense. This roster gets Dantoni a pass in my book.

i would not be surprised if they give rambis the head coaching job. even if only temporary. they just seem to be grooming him for the position right now.

Not a surprise, the way the season has gone... I can see it happening

Not all his fault by any stretch but still... But with the draft pick or whatever they do with it and getting ramped up for a rebuild they'd want to put a new face on next season...

he's a Phil Jackson guy... so any input from him would probably be making that push

Dantoni aint never won shit and aint never gonna win shit. Who the fukc would hire a coach who doesn't care about defense anyways? Not a team serious about winning a championship.

Lakers need some players that are natural defenders.
picking embiid would be a start. get some guys like Ariza and let Dantoni coach offense while you hire a good defensive assistant coach.
Dantoni is the best offensive coach there is with pop.
probably kobe doesnt like dantonis teamball scheme:coleman:

mikes an ok coach. just not a great one... and thats the standard in LA

i dont even think phil jackson could have made this current lakers squad a playoff team. maybe not as bad as last place in the west. but theyre still a lottery team

so it isnt all on mike. give the guy a break. just fire the dude and move on.

DAntoni favors offensive players and he is too stubborn to adjust. He wants players who can score. If the Lakers get players that are natural defenders, they also make sure that player can score or shoot because he will not be on DAntoni rotation.

no pun intended

Jim Buss is the one who needs to be fired.

that's nice management.

They'll tank this season for a nice pick, maybe trade for another pick. They'll use mike dantoni to increase the value of their players so they can get something from trading them.

They'll play the next season developing said picks and minimizing salary for the 2015 summer where kobe/nash goes off the books. In 2014-2015 they'll let kobe chuck like mad if he can still stand, great publicity and alot of cash while surely losing. Win-win.

Then they'll have another really high pick in a what it seems to be a really good draft class AND cap space for a summer of lebron/bosh/love/lma/klaythompson/dragic.

Not a bad plan tbh. Mitch is a great GM, he only has to deal with jimmy boy:oldlol:

This.

The best Lakers teams had a BALANCE of scorers and defenders. You do need people like Artest, Ariza, and Rick Fox on the team to guard the best player so their best player doesn't have to. The Clippers have a great offense and have guys like Barnes and Dudley for that purpose, the Thunder have Sefolosha, Memphis has Tony Allen, Warriors have Iguodala, and Miami has Battier and Cole... Lakers have Wesley Johnson and Xavier Henry who can be those types of players but they're relied on for offense just as much.

D'Antoni's great at coaching offense but with no defensive philosophy and no defined roles it's a glorified Don Nelson Warriors team out there... 132 points to the Pelicans? Giving up over 100 points in three quarters in back to back games? That's ridiculous.

you could have any coach in the history of the NBA and they wouldn't make that squad a playoff team.

MDA doesn't teach winning basketball. It's not good to have a young core that isn't taught how to defend the ball.

LA's not developing anything tbh :lol
just a hole in the capspace of 2015 summer and a coupla high draft picks.

LA right now is playing exactly like a run-of-the mill Dleague team just with (some) NBA talent because it's obvious that (almost) everybody will leave soon so everybody is out to get theirs to increase their chance of better contracts (and indirctly better trades for LA). Mike D is perfect for this situation.
