you sound like a rapper man, it's not exactly my cup of tea but I already prefer you over some of the shit I hear on the hip hop shows. I preferred LOMD's verse, I'm not sure if that's you or your buddy but it felt a little less on the nose, the first verse was a lot of "i stab hoes" and kind of cliche drug and violence metaphors which didn't seem genuine to me. What's yellow drank? Anyways, I'm sure you know to keep working on your shit, but it's cool that you're actually putting shit out and not just saying "I'm a rapper" like so many of these clowns.

Maybe learning to play an instrument would accelerate your musical career. What you posted sounds like a dime a dozen of what's out there. These "gangsters" like Coolio and Iced Cube have already done what you're trying to replicate. Maybe learning to play an accordion, xylophone, or harmonica would make you sound original.

And I was talking about stabbing hoes with my dick, kind of.

Right, what is the drank?

I got that stab hoes wasn't literal, just being critical of what I see as kind of well worn metaphors. There's plenty of "i'm hard, I shit on everyone, I f*ck a lot" rappers out there, I want to hear something that differentiates your voice from others (I mean your "voice" like your personal narrative, your personality, not the sound your mouth makes). Flow is good, like I said, you don't sound amateur, you're way better than please believe or any of the other guys who've tried to upload tracks here, I just want you to figure out what exactly it is that you have to say. You don't want to be "that's pretty good" on message boards, don't be afraid to show some vulnerability, get into what interests you, what's funny to you, how you feel about shit, right now you're just spittin bars but it's basically just imitation art to me at this point until you find what makes your voice unique. You got the tools though, respect.

Not bad at all man. A little heavy on the drums, but otherwise solid. You need to team up with a brother with some chorus hooks and then you're running to the Grammys

Tussionex with Sprite.

And it's apples and oranges, but if I sipped that as much as I drink alcohol I'd probably be dead.

Not bad at all man. A little heavy on the drums, but otherwise solid. You need to team up with a brother with some chorus hooks and then you're running to the Grammys

Come on man, the Grammy's? Let's not give false hope; there's nothing wrong with aiming high, but keep shit realistic. You called out Ace for going at GOBB and those other guys being too cocky but the primary reason why he did was because of compliments just as the one you said (you tell anyone they're "running for the Grammy's" and of course they're going to think they're white hot; dude probably won't be buying anymore Charmin' going forward to wipe his own ass because his shit don't stink now, obviously.

... and Ace should be more appreciative of mine and LD's comments not just because we're older than most you guys and probably have a much more profound level of knowledge and understanding on the very subject we're all discussing here but b/c our feedback is more humble and constructive and that type of critique is ultimately what's going to be what helps Ace improve. Saying someone is a breath away from winning a Grammy is more than likely going to take comment recipient's foot off the gas pedal and into cruise control - meaning they're likely not going to improve and become stagnant.

LD's comment/feedback was humble and actually went into crucial detail (especially his second) on areas that could use improvement and specifically advised what he personally felt could improve his game. I'd much rather have someone tell me "yeah it was decent, but to be honest, it could be improved here, here, here, here, ... ten minutes later ... here, here and here" instead of "hell yeah my *****! What you going to say when you hold up that Grammy? What color Lexus LFA you gonna get? Your phat new crib gonna have pink or indigo shutters" ... everyone loves to have their ego stroked every so often, but keeping it real is obviously more significant.

_____

Back to Ace... I'm not going to lie, it was pretty dope (IMO, I thought) first hearing it, because it flowed well (and still does) ... but to allude to what LD was getting at, the lyricism is strongly forgetful. There's nothing memorable in the lyrics, and lyricism is the future of rap. Fans are paying so much more attention to lyrics these days than they ever have in the past; where back in the day you could get by with simply having a kick ass flow, but now days it takes a bit more. Lyricism is the flagship element of a successful rap artist in today's hip-hop.

Believe it or not Ace, this is great criticism, because if it were the other way around you'd be in trouble. If your lyrics were strong and on point but your raw voice and flow were cringe worthy there wouldn't be much you could do about it. Unfortunately for a lot of kids aspiring to be the next rapper to come out, their flow, delivery, raw voice, etc is absolute shit, and all the ambition, devotion, work ethic can't change one's natural ability to "spit" ... and like LD said, you can spit. You have the "tools" and that's already a blessing in itself. Now don't get too ahead of yourself, your flow, voice, etc isn't the next coming of Christ, we've simply acknowledged it's one of the best we've heard here at ISH, and probably better than most out there in RL trying to make it as a rapper.

Arriving at the level of being a superb lyricist isn't something anyone can do either, but it's something someone can steadily improve upon the more and more they practice their craft. That's the good news. The bad news is like LD said, lyrically, you leave much, MUCH to be desired. You mentioned Kool Keith. I think that's a great example because KK's style, especially lyrically is highly unique and that's why he's recognized the manner in which he is. If you're going to make something of yourself you're going to have to establish yourself lyrically in a way that makes you unique - something that people will remember. You don't have to rap about space and all that weird shit that KK does to get recognized (that's obviously not you) but you can't just keep rapping about "***** this" - "***** that" - drugs, smashin hoes, etc...

It may not seem this way, but the wonderful world of rap is about lyricism and it's practically limitless. It may seem that everything worth saying in rap has already been said already - so many metaphors and punchlines already been beaten to the punch (no-pun intended), but honestly, that isn't even close to the truth. It's like writing ... there's so many published books out there, and that probably frustrates a lot of aspiring authors out there but then again, there's so many ideas untapped into yet that would make excellent writing. Same thing with rap.

You're on the right track man - keep it up Ace. You're a decent producer to, and that certainly doesn't hurt having that as a side skill.

and about GOBB, he's evolved over the years here into one of the biggest haters of people and their personal achievements in RL (no wait, he's not as bad as starface when it comes to this). Of course he's going to try and bring you down Ace. Anyone that seems to maybe have something going on besides this place out there in the real world and GOBB cringes because it isn't and will never be anything he could aspire to. Sheer jealously and hate. You could literally "make it" ... drop an album tomorrow and it go gold within a month's time and he'd still be talking shit about how you suck. That's just him. Always will be.

What's most comical about GOBB in these rap debates and discussions is he doesn't know shit about it and has terrible, TERRIBLE tastes. Ironically enough, some 13 year old kids who post here know much more about the rap game than that washed up douchbag, most certainly about modern rap and probably even older rap that "golden age" rap he likes to call it and claim to be so well-versed in.

:oldlol:

Dude is an absolute joke when it comes to this stuff. The man knows sports, there's no denying that, and he has great debate skills. I'll give credit where is due, absolutely no issue with that whatsoever, but when that idiot steadily claims to be so knowledgeable when it comes rap, that bullshit has to be stopped. Sheer blasphemy, and the saddest part is, dude doesn't even know it. He's been told it before, but he's in such denial b/c internally it would hurt him from an urban culture perspective and he knows it.
