Full props to Vlad, he got 97% of the vote in Crimea, used the old Western tactic of Democracy to get his way and acquire the Ukraine's nuts@ck.

look at it, just dangling there.
So what is the West to do after losing so much face with Putin calling their bluff?
War? no
Sanctions? who cares, only hurts Ukraine
Travel bans? who cares
Fight friendly fire with friendly fire.
Russia got Crimea via vote, now the West can do the same by fast tracking the Ukraine's and Belarus' EU and NATO memberships.
Do it with a vote, use the same reasoning the Russians did to take Crimea to Westernize Russia's Western buffer.

You see, I'm not sure they want that. Because then, if Putin invades those places, the US, under treaty obligation has to go to war....and everyone and their daughter knows no one is starting World War 3 over Belarus and Ukraine.
Just not going through that shit again, not after WW2.
Putin has this shit on lock. Other than secretly funding military resistance in those countries/ secretly handing them nukes, you just need to stand, watch, and applaud Putin.

Russia is something like 80% "ethnically" Russian. It is a demographic catastrophe with high non-Russian birth rates and if the same democratic voting strategy is held within it's borders it would find itself losing much of its' territory.

Just give him the Seal Team Six treatment.
In other words, wait til Barry's approval ratings are in a huge rut, then pretend to take out Putin and "dump him in the ocean" so there's no evidence whatsoever that it actually happened. Then celebrate.
Sometimes it honestly feels like I'm living in a dream.

It's not a conspiracy; it's Machiavelli.
Also: There's a difference between being far right, and simply being vociferously right center. I'm the latter.

World War 1 was started in a country with a lot of Russian sympathizers...
Regardless, I don't think the Russians would have a chance in hell in a war.
NATO is all over the map to the West, and the US is in the Middle East to the South and Japan and Korea to the East.
China would do nothing but supply the low grade weaponry (they stay out of other people's shit as it gives them license to keep people out of Taiwan, Tibet and Xinjiang).
Don't get me wrong, Putin has played his hand brilliantly to this point, but now he is likely going all in on Eastern Ukraine, and if he pushes too far.
This will make the space program in the US a bit dicey, Russia is the only ride home.

Your showing you know absolutely nothing about geopolitics by suggesting Belarus will join NATO or the EU.
Look up their dictator and the Eurasian Customs Union.

Russia is actually called Russian federation and consists of other republics.

how so?
In late fall when Ukraine (and Yanukovitch) wanted to associate with the EU, the european commission put up a ridiculous proposal, like they promised them a loan from the IMF. :biggums: Something that was a complete joke, then Yanukovitch turned to Russia, people started protesting yada, yada, yada, crimea crisis.

Dear America
Crimea is not historically part of Ukraine.
There really isn't a legitimate reason for Ukraine to hold onto that region beyond the fact that they got it when they broke off from Russia in the early 90s.
If you really want to give the country back to the people who deserve it it should go to the Crimean Tatars who were forcibly removed by Stalin. Of course that won't happen anytime soon b/c (A) they are ethnic Muslims and (B) got ejected from the country b/c some of them thought siding with the Nazis to remove the USSR (which is what the cause for their deportation) was a good idea.

I don't think U.S questions whether Crimea should be part of Russia or not. What U.S questions is how this was done by Russia. You block the border, military bases and the local government. You give guns to Russian ethnic groups and stage some conflicts between different ethnic groups.
How come a year ago nobody wanted to join Russia in Crimea? But now once the Russian military was in the region and huge media war was started by the Kremlin now they all want to be part of Russia (around 95%). Seems just so wrong. Thing is if this incident goes without any replies from western governments then a dangerous precedent is made.
