View Full Version : Should we take pride in being fans?

I feel like I am accomplishing something being an avid Thunder fan..

I invest a lot of emotional energy into the games. I feel like I should be compensated for it somehow..... I spend a lot of time watching/commenting on the games. I also support the franchise financially. I own 13 Thunder jerseys, warmup gear, hats, posters, KD's, lanyards, wallets, T-shirts, underwear, necklaces, blankets, shower curtain, etc etc etc.

I just feel like I deserve recognition somehow for it... believe it or not... it isn't easy to do what I do on a consistent basis. We all need our egos tickled every once in a while..... why is there no thread acknowledging the loyal fans? we deserve the attention

there also needs to be annual poster awards.... MVP(Most Valuable Poster) MIP(Most Improved) MLF(Most Loyal Fan) FPOY(Funniest poster of year) etc etc.

This will maintain the competitive atmosphere of InsideHoops.

You could make a case that I'm the MVP, MLF, and FPOY. :lol

Stans already do that, with their little cliques and shit.

You don't want to be like them bud

It's not a real picture.

It was just a funny response. Actually insanely clever on his part.

Notice how instead of embracing the competitive layout I set forth you go straight for the tired.... "you should be banned... .waaah... im reporting you for being funny.. waaah" routine. Get a backbone.

Why you will never hang with the big dogs.

I would love to embrace the competitive spirit, but I can't take you seriously. "I feel like I'm accomplishing something being a Thunder fan" :oldlol: Come on man, have some self-respect. Aim a little higher than that.

It's an honor to be mentioned with Jabbar and 9er... nothing but respect for them. I actually consider them close friends of mine....the comradery is what I love for.... keeps my job fun. Gotta enjoy the game to be great.

Agree with Millbuck being the RPOY. Well deserved.

Any thoughts on MIP?

freeman,
i thought he was just another bran dickrider whos shamelessly disguise himself as other team fans yet sucking bran's dick 24/7, i called him out several times,
but now he become much better poster, with the timely and right selection of gif

OP is a Thunder fan since 2012, when they started being relevant. How convenient.

Not a bad mention.. but I don't know if he's improved all that much.

pauk maybe?

Or is he still too much of a passive aggressive LeBron stan?

zoom17 is the MIP. At one point he was the worst poster in message board history. one word replies, idiotic gifs, low IQ/unfunny trolling/LeBron stan...

Don't get me wrong, he still sucks. But he sucks a lot less than he did.

Good call on Freeman. Gained respect for the dude over the past few weeks. His gifs are gold.

Great thread. Supporting an underdog team like the raptors is definitely a noble endeavor. You are not as funny moe94 though so you would be a runner-up in that category. How fitting

ofc you should take pride in being a fan. much more so if you're supporting your team financially. buy tickets, go to games and spend some more on food and beverages, buy jerseys and other memorabilia...

in the end, we're all just fans helping this game we love continue to exist.

A shower curtain, and underwear you say? :biggums:

I had no idea they made so many chachkies with NBA logos. I took a look and even found toasters that burn your team's logo into your toast.

I was gonna come in here and answer the question no. NO.

Let's get philosophical!

What is a fan? Is a fan anything more than a consumer? Does a fan do what he does in order to support his team or does he do it for recognition?

for instance, let's say I have a favorite band. I can say I am a fan of them because I really enjoy their music, but how can it really go beyond that when you're observing something from afar, that you really have no relationship to.

That's why college sports can be more interesting because you could attend that school or it could be "the school" in town. Still, it's arguable whether fandom should go any further than saying "I like and support this team."

Fan up, I'm the best fan... you're a disgraceful fan, etc. I don't understand that way of thinking. It may have meant more to me when I was younger. I still think it's rude as **** to leave a bball game before it's over (not that I haven't done it in certain circumstances.) Or flipping the game off when it goes bad ( I do this all of the time now lol) is pretty un-fan-ly, but comparing what percentage of your body you painted with someone else is some 'get control of your life' shit. In my opinion...

But I think sports fans can get out of control They are in really crazy denial about a lot of things, the whole stan/homer thing is pretty common, and dudes think their team winning reflects somehow on them.

It's cool to like a team or like a player (we all do), but try watching the games without being a biased superfan. WAZZAMATTAWITU REF??? You may find that there is a lot of basketball you are missing because of hatred/love for some shit that doesn't even exist... it's just a marketing ploy.

I'm a 76er fan, and for this season I've been dying a little bit inside for every game, every highlight I see.

And when the day comes when my 6ers are a championship team, I will probably feel like president of the world or something for enduring these recent seasons, especially this one.

I'm a fan of my team. I relate to my team because I've been watching them 40+ years; certain events intertwine with my own life. One of my childhood friends played for this team, which also amped up my love for the franchise. I have respect for anyone that supports their team, whether good times or bad. I don't have any respect for people that consistently bash other teams or players just to get a rise out of others. There's nothing wrong with having pride in your team - it's what it's all about.
