View Full Version : Spo leaving Oden as starter for the rest of the year

Oden's been slow and terrible lately but I like this move since there is no other place for him in the lineup. Birdman is better off the bench anyway and this will give Oden some further motivation and expectations to perform better.

Somewhat surprising, but oh well. It's not like Battier was giving us anything, other than making one 3 pointer out of every 10 he attempts.

Maybe Oden's past the injuries... Imagine 35 minutes of Oden in the conference finals

Nah, he would foul out by the 25 min mark.

True, never thought about that...
Edit: He averages 9.4 fouls per 36... So he'd foul out in about 20 minutes. Yikes. Can you say liability?
oh the horror

I don't think Oden can ever sustain a stable 35 mins a game. Being past injuries doesn't mean they didn't happen. His knees aren't great but he should provide them with size inside.
This is basically to see what he can do. If he can't last then that's it.

Oden can't run or jump, check out Oden at Ohio State before the injuries. Plus he's overweight now.

i think he'd be more conservative if he played more minutes. as it was he wasn't playing much so he could be more reckless.
still, that's pretty bad
you guys have no idea how much he sucks out there. lets hope this gets him going again.

Factor in rust, limited mobility and perhaps some of it is mental?
Is he that bad?

Oden doesn't even hustle or run the floor in the limited minutes he plays and gets way too many fouls. giving him more minutes isn't going help.

People like to act like Oden was Shaq before the injuries...
Let's just ignore that without the injuries, he was still highly undeveloped relative to his potential. He had a ton of work to do offensively. Then now you factor in his severely limited mobility/agility, and you have a guy who is right now basically a body on the floor.
Anyone who's watched him out there can see that he's really not that good right now. 30 minutes of THIS Oden is not that scary at all.

He's probably shattered the dreams of many women, just made a total pulled pork-like mess out of their once magnificent genitalia. That's gotta wear on him.
people who think Oden is gonna play 30 mins or even 25 mins or even 20, hes not. He is just starting the game and seeing if he can establish a presence for the start of each game. If not, they will go with Birdman/Bosh/Battier/Beasley (thats a lotta Bs) for the rest of the game

Oden averages 2.2 fouls a game in 8.3 minutes. That's 9.4 fouls per 36 minutes

I like this. If he is ever going to get to the point where he can contribute in the playoffs, this is an important step towards that.

That's one flat looking hook.
Oden is no longer involved with that train wreck of a medical staff in Portland. Time to fully resume his career, and become a piece to a potential dynasty. :applause:

Pretty hilarious how concerned they are with Indiana's size. If you are a truly great, confident team you don't adjust to other teams...you make them adjust to you.

:facepalm Miami beat the Pacers twice in the playoffs. The Pacers have altered their roster a couple of times. Miami hasn't been doing much, other than adjust lineups. Also, how the hell do you adjust to size? Make players wear 6" shoes?

And Birdman still gets his minutes.
I am not surprised by this move at all. They are trying to move away from the smallball because Battier is done and Oden might get important minutes in the playoffs.
Offense is non-existent with him at this point (no wonder, I doubt he did any work in that department over the last few years at all), but defense is looking solid with him out there. He still has problems moving laterally, but he runs the court well and sometimes even showes flashes of his past explosivness.
The fouls are a big problem, but they should decrease as the rust shakes off and the refs may become little more tolerant towards him, because right now they are calling fouls against him for simply standing under the basket.

The key with Oden is his improvement. If he keeps improving ever so slightly with each game, then keep playing him. He just has to play man, remember how rusty Drose was when he came back. Its a wait and see game with him, but damn that jump hook was ugly.
