Let 2014 mark the beginning of the downfall of the NBA. Sleeved jerseys and ads. ****ing awful.

Yeah, football has ads on jerseys.

They also have no commercials during the game.

I dont care for this as much as I care for the blatant rigging of games.. im STILL pissed off about the 2002 series between the entitled Los Angeles Lakers and Sacramento Kings.

i havent bought a jersey since they stopped stitching the name and numbers/logo on the authentics

its now glued on like a replica jersey to save money..

been that way since they introduced the light weight material

I'll take the ads on traditional jerseys if it means we don't have those sleeved ones anymore. If both remain? Eh, it's just ridiculous. If anything, seeing an ad shoved down my throat on a jersey is probably going to make me use whatever it is less.

they probably want the sleeves, so that there is more ad space.

You guys complain now, but you will get used to it. Eventually they will just become part of the jersey. Football teams have had this for a long time.

It depends how it is implemented though. Some logos arent too eye catching and work well with the kit, like so:

Whereas others can be more pronounced and destroy the look of the kit.

Got to say though the football federations keep it pretty pure. One sponsor on the front and the small brand sign of the producers (Nike, Adidas, Puma and so on).

NBA will probably go hockey style and it will look like this...

the new jerseys arent stitched. they have the felt patches and theyre stitched around the boarders to make it look stitched... but theyre glued to the jersey. if you bought a new jersey within the last 2 years the authentics when flipped inside out dont have any stitching connected to the jersey itself

you think soccer doesn't have commercial breaks b/c of the ads on jerseys?

fact is you only have one real commercial during half time after the game analysis when most ppl get something to eat. besides that you really don't have much space for commercials unlike a nba game that has commercials non stop. everything is sponserd like the game itself, starting lineups and even when showing simple stats. don't even get me started with all the events aka sprint slam dunk etc.

sometimes when i watch here on the local channel soccer games, i get to watch champions league and others without ANY commercial. its one 15 min. break with the experts talking 10 mins about the game and then they just show the replays for 5 minutes. not ONE single brand popping into my face.

putting ads on jersey in the nba is just extra money for the league.
compared to the opportunities you get in soccer to place ads it really is way more greedy.
you as a german should know. unless you watch to much RTL

nobody wants ads on their jersey's.
also you never put the team name on a soccer kit. its always just the emblem with or without ads.

Two of the world's biggest sports, soccer and cricket, have been doing this for eons. I don't see this as a big deal as long as it is tasteful.

Don't know about cricket, but the nature of soccer doesn't allow for commercial breaks. In some countries they'll have very small breaks featuring one commercial when players are subbed or taking time getting treatment.

It would be better to compare it to European basketball, lots of jersey adds and company logos on the floor BUT..there are no TV timeouts. Games take 1h30-1h45 minutes to complete.

The thing about marketing is that it will never be enough, there will "always" be more money to be made through more exposure. Tons of commercials aren't enough, random stats and key points have to be sponsored, everything is sponsored.."here's your sub of the game, now go eat some Carl jr."
Companies get to bet on a special result, at Staples they literally get people yelling "we want tacos" about 10-20 times a year...brilliant marketing by the way.

I bet in 15 years they'll be throwing up sponsored spots with those new 3D projecters on the vacant end of the court because "why not use that half of the floor when the ball is at the other end". They'll mix it up with some player names to make it seem legit: "WOW Blake Griffin, another KIA slam dunk" right there on the court as they're setting up a play at the other end.

Americans are the most sturdy people on earth when it comes to marketing, they can take a lot without losing interest in the original product they set out to watch.
