who would you prefer?rubio or rondo?both can t really shoot,make steals,are a threat for a triple double,excellent passers
i think rondo has the ability to carry a team unlike rubio(at least not yet) but rubio didn t play with 3 hall of famers
keep in mind that rondo is also 5 years older
stats at the age of 23
rondo
4.4 rpg
9.8 asp
2.3 spg
3 tos
13.7 ppg
rubio
4.5 rpg
8.6 apg
2.5 spg
2.7 tos
9.1 ppg

not that i don t agree but why?cause stats wise they are pretty similar
Rondo is very loud on the court and annoying. I like Rubio better because he's like a video game character - some of his passes are legit WTF moments. He's also slightly better looking than Rondo.

Rondo definitely.
He's a bit better at getting to the hoop. Ricky needs a shot, I'm sad to say it, but that's the reality. I'm amazed at his defense and rebounding, honestly, he evolved....but to be on that level he needs a shot.

rondo and its not close. even thought rondo has a sucky mid/3pt shot, he is still a good finisher, and has the skill to have a pretty good scoring game(40 pts on heat). rubio is straight trash at scoring, would need 100 shots to score 40

Rondo in above average midrange shooter for awhile now and is becoming more of a 3 point threat. Not sure why this myth about his shooting still exist. Also Rondo isn't really a good finisher at all and probably closer to below average to average. He dose seem a better finisher currently post rehab.

That's actually a good point. Im gonna have to change my vote to Rubio too based on this argument.

Rondo because he's an elite defender at the PG position
Rondo because he's an elite defender at the PG position
So is Rubio...

I don't think it's close at all, granted I haven't watched Rondo much since his injury. Rondo has put up huge numbers in the playoffs before and has proven himself time and time again. I've yet to see Rubio really lead the team offensively when needed. Keep in mind that defenses are paying a lot more attention to Rondo than Rubio. Maybe it's just me, but I'd take Rondo in a heartbeat. :confusedshrug:
Both guys are up there with my favourite players in the league. Not neccessarily doing an age to age comparison, but right now Rondo seems to be a far superior midrange shooter than Rubio and is also more consistent. As such I'd be taking Rondo. Both have a very similar game though. Top tier passers, triple double threats and great stealers. They even share the same initials AND jersey number.

rubio is shit. rondo is way better why is this a question?
Rondo. I'll take his game and mentality over most pgs and that includes Rubio. Wasn't Rubio the one that said he wasn't having ''fun'' playing basketball? Because they were losing? LOL.

rondo looks alot better shooting the ball now..
even draining 3's which was a defs a surprise this season

Rubio's jumpshot makes Rondo's jumpshot look like Ray Allen.

Give me 3 PG's who are better defenders than Ricky? He is the only player who can play d in our starting 5.
Rubio is in the unfortunate position that he is in Adelmans offense which doesn't give him a lot of freedom. We also have no shooters outside of Love. I would say he passes to a open shooter 5-6 times a game resulting in misses.
If he had the offense to himself, didn't get benched for that piece of shit Barea and had some shooters he would look a lot better.
His d is really good and he is one of a few players who actually passes the ball to the post without looking for an assist consistently.
I don't understand why he still can't hit jumpshots though. He is actually a good stand still 3 point shooter and ft shooter. Just cant hit a jumper on the move to save his life.

No one mentioned Rondo is the better passer. He kills Rubio in assists every year.

This is the first year Rubio's had a comparable/better team than Rondo. I don't like saying this because it brings the Rondo haters out in full effect, but it is easier to rack up assists passing to KG, Pierce and Allen. This season Rondo's averaging less than an assist more than Ricky. They're both amazing passers, so that skill is probably a wash between them

i think its closer than people think
i mean yeah rondo can shoot a bit now,but when he was 23 years old he was awful at shooting
don t forget he is 5 years older too
they are both excellent passers.rondo was fortunate enough to have the big 3 with him.that boosted his stats, confidence and leadership
ps i don t think rubio will become better than rondo just based on the fact that he was a great talent in europe and didn t evolve to a point people started to think of him as a scrub.his inability to hit jumpers cost him(his defenders shagged off him)and his coach actually preferred to bench him when the game was on the line

One is a elite PG (when healthy) one is very average and does annoying girly yells all the time when bricking lay up's so I'm taking Rondo.

5 years older you say? I'll consider Rubio to have the potential to be as good when he averages 20/10/9 in a playoff series this year then

KG, Pierce, and Allen were never the primary reason for Rondo's assists. They hit open jumpers but that's something most NBA players are dcapable of and the way Pierce creates offense on his own actually does nothing for a point's APG. That's why Rondo is still able to average 9 assists coming off knee surgery. It doesn't matter who his teammates are, put the ball in his hands and he's going to pile up assists.

I think KG, PP, and Ray's current production is evidence that Rondo was the one extending their careers and not them creating his like some have been saying for the past few years. They helped him become what he is, but he eventually took over as the engine that drove those post-2008 Celtics teams.
Rondo is better than Rubio and this year is a big sign of that. Even coming off injury, the Celtics offense looks infinitely better with him on the floor. His defense has been severely lacking, but I credit that to not having played in almost a year and without KG's vocal presence.
Not hating on Ricky, I actually like him, but he can't score like Rondo can, he's currently got a much better team around him, has been healthy, and they still aren't winning as much as they should. He's solid, but not nearly as impactful as Rondo.
Rubio definitely gets the nod defensively this year though.

Also, other than CP3, Rondo is the most versatile pg in the league. Like CP3, he fits into every team's offense. Not saying he's as good as a Steph Curry, but that he fits better into every team's structure.

Rondo is a proven playoff performer and can light it up offensively when needed. Then there's that ring in '08.
Rubio is unproven and might likely stay that way since he's playing with Mr. Empty Stats who can't lead a team to the playoffs.

Rondo at 23 didn't have KG. KG was gone that season due to injury.
Would take Rondo at 23, Rondo now, and all Rondos inbetween over Rubio.

Anyone picking Rubio over Rondo is thinking with their ***** and not their heads.
Yes, because rondo has a guy like K Love in this Celtic squad
Would you rather have Kevin Love or Pierce, Garnett and Allen?
I'd be taking Rondo, just like 99% of basketball fans, but passing isn't the reason because they are both around top 5 in the league for court vision and passing ability, and yes the fact he's averaging 9 assists a game is proof that he doesn't need the Big 3 like some of his haters were claiming, but when I'm learning the NBA style and game, I'd rather be passing to those three guys than Kevin Love and...an inconsistent Kevin Martin?

What a shame that he hasn't been elite in 20 whole games on a deliberately tanking team. :(
22 games
7 double doubles
6 near triple doubles 8+ in 3 categories
18 assist / 0 turnover game

Seriously? Rondo was part of a hard-nosed championship team. I'd love to see if Rubio has that ice water in his veins in a tight playoff game. He needs to play on a better squad before we consider this question IMO.

He has a far better team this season for sure, I acknowledged that in the post you highlighted. The reason I brought up the big three earlier was because somebody said Rondo's assist numbers are way higher than Rubio's, which I don't think is completely fair when in previous years Rondo has had a superior team and team structure. This season there is less than an assist between them. Admittedly Rondo is injured, but we can't really comment beyond that until he's had more time to recover from the injury
