Jason Collins says he's been a target of gay taunts from one player

From the moment he embarked down this trailblazing path, Jason Collins has said that he'd turn the other cheek when faced with ignorance, accepting that he can't control the words and actions of idiots.

He was tested once during his first month with the Brooklyn Nets, although the NBA's first openly gay player understandably doesn't want to give attention to the "knucklehead" or his comments.

After all, most everything else about his groundbreaking experience on the court and in the locker room has been positive. And Collins handled the negativity like he anticipated - with a silent disregard.

"One player, one knucklehead from another team," Collins said in an interview with the Daily News. "He's a knucklehead. So I just let it go. Again, that goes back to controlling what you can control. That's how I conduct myself - just being professional.

He has played in 10 games this year. We can rule out his debut since no laker player would risk calling jason a *** in his first game + after the kobe fine (all eyes were on this game).

We can also say that it isn't probably that anyone called him a *** in a game were he played 4 minutes or less not enough time to get hurtful with words, so that rules out Charlotte, Phoenix, Toronto and Chicago.

Then we look at the games after his debut (Portland and Denver) both were blowouts so it's unlikely someone tried to get under his skin.

I support Jason Collins for doing what he's doing. Certainly isn't easy being a gay man in a macho sport. With that being said, he would have been even more of a hero had he come out 10 years ago. At this point, it just makes him look like he's trying to remain relevant so he can get a contract.
