Heading there in a few weeks for a school trip.

Best sneaker stores? (Mainly for J's and other ball shoes)
Best dine in spots?
Fast food spots?
Clothing stores?
Museums?
Other significant places that's worth looking at?

Haven't been to Chicago yet so I'm kind of clueless on where to go with the mates. We get evenings free for the week that were there, so we can roam the city in groups, as long as we have a meeting place at the end of the day.

Enlighten me, boys. Thanks.

I lived on the southside for 4 years. While it obviously has its problems, there are some incredible neighborhoods and people there. Sure, as a white guy, I wasnt particularly welcome in some neighborhoods, but there were also awesome community events that I was very welcomed at.

As for museums, Chicago is a goldmine. Museum of Science and Technology is incredible (and on the southside), Field Museum and the Art Institute are world class. There are lots of smaller museums throughout the city as well.

Food options are very widespread. I would recommend the Berghoff for a nice sitdown mean that isnt too formal (german food), Harolds Chicken (a classic chicago chain - I get the the 4 thigh special with hot and mild sauce and extra bread), and Cafe Luigi Pizza in Lincoln Park (not chicago style, their stuffed pies are pretty great). But, really, there is great and diverse food across the entire city.

Man, I hated both of those places when I lived there. Felt like cookie cutter america with a tiny amount of local flavor.

Thanks for the info, dude. Will definitely give those places a look. I was talking to a dude that came into my work the other day, a Chicago native coincidentally, and he was telling me about a place called Ron of Japan or something like that. Told me it was a must try when I head out here, though a bit pricey. You try it yet? And what'd you think of it?

Also, he was telling me hit up the Berto Center if I ever wanted a chance of meeting/seeing Bulls players during practices. :lol

Sorry man but tourists don't want to visit the South Side of Chicago with it's Iraq like homicide rates so they can experience the local "flavor."

Do you have to hold hands with your classmates? If not then:

Magnificent Mile. Bloomingdale's and Saks.

Also, I remember going to this one street, which was full of bars and nightclubs.

Take the architectural tour. It's about an hour long and totally worth it.

Giordano's pizza is pretty good as well. Chicago style deep dish.

As others have said, DON'T go to South Chicago.

I was in downtown Detroit a couple of weeks ago. The whole city was almost deserted with burnt down building and others boarded up. Even the casinos were empty.

That bar/club street was probably the gold coast. It's a really fun place for a grown person to spend the night.
