View Full Version : Championship or Bust for Durant and OKC?

I think Durant has reached that point where he has to start winning rings. Got the MVP on lock. If OKC is healthy going into the playoffs, do you guys think he'll have any excuses if they don't win a championship?

Thoughts?

He's 25.

Nope, he doesn't have to win right now. Still pretty young.

With his supporting cast, if he was better than Lebron, he wins this year... Lebron wins with OKC cast.

Yes and Durant already has a top 5 player in Westbrook, and an all star calibre player in Ibaka.

That's true, but I feel he has the best window right now. The west is going to be grueling to come out of this year though.

It has been that way ever since 11-12 season.

No excuses. Peak players win rings. The only Peak elite All-time player to not win was Robinson in 95'. And maybe Wilt. Nash, KG, Dirk Malone are arguable because they didn't have the support KD has.

I can agree with that. I say if their team is healthy, people will begin to question him if they don't win it all.

The MVP and best player in the league is expected to win. He wont have any excuses unless Westbrook's knee gives in.

7th Season in and he doesn't have to win... LeBron at a younger age didn't need to win in 2010 either? Totally ignoring Supporting cast..

Look at these peeps already defending KD's upcoming post-season failure :oldlol:

No need for name calling. But we all know players like KD, LeBron, Kobe, etc. get all the credit when their teams win. It's the same when they lose.

This.
There's a limit where one guy can take you.

And OKC isn't healthy, they are without 2 starters and WB status is unknown right now.

That's why I said "if OKC is healthy". There is a limit to where one guy can take you, but good luck getting people to buy that statement. People don't care. It's either you won or you didn't. Simple as that.

OKC had so many star players in 2012 they had to trade one away.

How can you confidently say this is his peak? What if he has the normal career trajectory and keeps getting better until 28?

the team with
Larry Hughes 37 mpg with a fg of %40 ?
Drew Gooden 28 mpg with a fg of %47 and a negative defensive presence
Big Z with 27mpg for 12 and 8 with horrible D?
A young Andy Varejao with 27mpg and 6.5/6.5
eric snow starting PG with 25mpg going of for 4.2 ppg?
and other HOF players such as damon jones, sasha pavlovic, daniel gibson, ira newble, dwayne jones and donyell martin.

Let this information sink into your thick monkey skull. What lebron did with that team is the equivalent of jesus christ crossing the red sea. GTFO with this shit.

With a healthy WB I think think they make the finals with a solid chance at winning.

but it's hard to pick against the 2x defending champs

As I said before, the expectations fans have of Durant are far lower than they did for Lebron.

LBJ 23
03-22-2014, 04:15 PM
Lol @ he is too young :oldlol:

Lebron was supposed to win with far less talented team at the same age and I'm almost sure that if Durant fails to win a Chip he will receive less criticism than Lebron did in 09' or 10' even though Lebron teammates were nowhere near to the Durannt's supporting cast.

If you're all so quick to put Durant's name right next to the Lebron or even higher let's hold him to the same standards aswell no?

He's not putting up better stats than this. Statistically, he has peaked. Like Jordan when he put up 32-8-8, and LeBron in 09'.

Right, because you've been to the future and know with 100% certainty that Durant will not get better.

Also, best stats =/= peak. If you think Jordan was at his best during his 32-8-8 season or Bron was at his best in 2009, I don't have anything else to discuss with you.

I'm pretty sure Jordan in his athletic prime could have done all the same things.

Like, really, think about how much better he would be in 2017 judging by your logic.

37-11-7, 60-40-95? 35 PER? Come on now. He better win a ring this year.

Russell Westbrook's MRI shows no structural damage. www.sbnation.com/nba/2014/3/22/5537542/russell-westbrook-injury-mri-knee-thunder

I would made a new thread but apparently I don't have those privileges.

KD gets a pass because he isn't considered as good as Lebron was in Cleveland. Even though he has Westbrook and Ibaka.
