View Full Version : WIS Draft anyone?

For yet another NBA draft? It will be any player any season, NBA and ABA to be done on WhatIfSports. I'm looking ideally for 7 other people but if it becomes popular I'll open it up. Preferable so we have multiples of 8. We'll use a randomizer to determine the draft order and then use the snake format. 8 rounds for a starting 5 and 3 bench players.

Hopefully enough people sign up before Sunday night. I know there are people who live outside the US (myself included) which would make it difficult to hold a draft. We can do it two ways: normal way with a 1 hour time limit, if you get skipped once your time limit is reduced to 30 minutes, if you get skipped again your time limit is reduced to 10. If you think or know you'll be offline PM me, the person picking after you or if someone decides to judge, PM the pick to them.

The other way is to hold the draft period on Fridays through Sundays when most people are free. You'll have more time to think about who you want but the draft may take longer. Vote when you sign up and I'll update the OP when people start signing up.

It has been a WHILLLLEEEEEEEEE since I have participated in WIS, how will you be simulating games? Straight on WIS or will it be a vote here at ISH? I prefer the first option.

Straight on WIS. We'll log in or sign up, make our teams using the dream team then simulate. The last one I was in, everyone did a 7 game series against everyone else with HCA so everyone faced everyone twice then we tallied up wins and losses. Alternatively, we could do a bracket and find some way of giving HCA (if it matters). Which ever people prefer.

In each series, the two posters decide whether they want odd or even numbers. We then put the numbers 1-10 in a randomiser and whoever's number comes up will simulate that series. They have to post the link to the box-score.

I'll use a randomiser to determine the draft order and then again for the seedings and match-ups. I'll both in chronological order of who signed up. So I'll be the first name on the list etc. Sound good?

Depends if you want to judge or draft a team. If you're a judge just give your opinion here and there on people's picks and be prepared to receive PMs with offline picks. For impartiality you could do the randomising if its important to other posters

this is by far the best way, as shown in the football/soccer threads. i strongly recommend, saturday and sunday the forum is way more empty. i posted the final 8h ago in an all time tournament here and no one has posted because it's sunday.

Well, so far 6 people have said they'll play. A few others have posted but didn't say whether they were in or not. I forgot to say, post your time zone. I on GMT and I'm going to bed, I'll see what the thread looks like when I wake up

So we have

Myself - GMT
Cos88 - GMT +2
Plumply - GMT +8
Jake - GMT -7
Maniak - GMT -7
Kurple - GMT +1
Iamgine - ?
Trey - GMT -4
Sajo - GMT -4

PST is the earliest time, if we started the draft between 3 and 4pm GMT how would that be for everyone? The 15 hour time difference between the two on PST and Plumply who I assume to be in Eastern Europe is a killer. Once the last few post their time zones that is.

Here is a provisional draft order (http://i1287.photobucket.com/albums/a621/KobesFinger/WISDRAFTORDER_zps508662c3.png)

I took the screenshot just as proof. The numbers in brackets are the order I entered because I used a different randomiser first and only a few names were in a different order. If you can't see it the order is (with time zones):

1 - Kurple
2 - MP. Trey
3 - Bosnian Sajo
4 - jcsrplumply
5 - Jakeh008
6 - KobesFinger
7 - Iamgine
8 - Maniak
9 - cos88

As Kurple is has the #1 pick and he's GMT +1, I think an 12pm GMT start will work best. My only worry is Jakeh008 going right after jcsrplumply, they're 15 hours apart but if the draft is prompt it should be fine

http://www.whatifsports.com

What you do is register (its free) and once you've drafted your team here, create the team using the Dream Team feature under SimMatchup. Then post your team name here. You'll also want to use this (http://www.basketball-reference.com/) for player stats.

I'll create the thread when it's almost time to draft

I'm pretty sure there's 12 players to fill in each roster and definitely no coaches.
Here's a list for players to draft.

1) We actually have 9. We had 8 then another signed up, no biggie. I did post my thoughts on the 8 but Iamgine didn't like it. I'd like suggestions on how the tournamount can run.

2) No, one version only. If someone picks 91 Jordan, I can't pick 03 Jordan etc. Same applies with someone picking 83 Dr J, I can't pick 73 Dr J even though one was NBA and the other was ABA

3) I don't, no. Maybe someone else does.

http://www.printyourbrackets.com/generator.php Let's us do a round robin. As I mentioned, I often miss the simple option by over-thinking. 9 rounds, in each round 1 person gets an automatic victory. We then tally up victories. How much does home court advantage matter to you guys?

Fine by me, the HCA still applies though. The person with the bye should just toss a coin at home and say what happened, then post each box-score in the draft thread. Unless players want a separate tourney thread?
