I'm pretty sure they are the same thing.

Emo are a weak and commercial version of Goth

We can also say: Emo are a gay version of Goth

South Park summarized it well once, but I can't remember what it was. Something like goths see the world as dark and depressing, while emo people see their own lives as dark and depressing. Think of goth rock like Marilyn Manson who sings about not wanting to give into society's norms, while emo songs are about not feeling loved or wanting to die type stuff.

Style wise, I think of emo as halfway between goth and punk.

at the end of the day there really is no difference. You still look like an as*hole that nobody wants hire.

Just watch the south park episode. Goths are actually cooler and have personality versus emos who are brainless insecure individuals who can harm themselves or others.

Goths are angry, Emos are sad.
