efficiency is a sign of a true stat padder.

only 6 of the top 20 all time offensive ratings players have won a championship.
http://www.basketball-reference.com/leaders/off_rtg_career.html

on this list are players like Chris (pass on every open shot) Paul and Kevin (empty stats) Love

while 14 of the top 20 points scored of all time have won a championship.

Kobe - 25.5 PPG career.
LeBron - 27.5 PPG career.

So not only is LeBron > Kobe at being efficient, but also scores at a higher volume :lol

its a good thing having a combination of the two is the best.

Think Shaq/MJ/Kareem/Wilt/Hakeem/Lebron/Duncan/Wade :applause:

On the other hand, guys like Allen Iverson who disregard efficiency are just...... eh :confusedshrug:

this thread isn't about Kobe > LeBron, I'm not a Kobe stan.

I can't stand this new-age obsession over efficiency though. it's a worthless stat that doesn't translate to championships.

Kobe only won those chips because he had dominant/efficient frontcourt players (Shaq/Gasol)

So technically what your saying is 30 ppg on 1% shooting is better than 15 ppg on 50%?

points are not better than efficiency. Being efficient in the NBA is very important. That stat should not be ignored

so then why did Dirk beat LeBron in '11 when Dirk shot .416% in the finals?

Kobe shot 25ppg on 50% in on of those finals with Shaq, can't remember which one off the top of my head btw.

Btw the only two finals mvp's in the last ten years to shoot 50% were Tony Parker and Chauncey Billups, the rest shot under 50%

LeBron sucked in the 2011 finals. From what I remember, Wade was the only one who played good on that team. The Mavs won because the whole team played great

so wait? Winning a championship is now a team accomplishment? If it's a team accomplishment why do we only give credit to a single player when it fits our agenda?

This.

Of course it is a team accomplishment, but the hypocrisy people use to pimp up their player who's team won one and to slight a player who's team didn't is sad.

18/10 isn't dominant. It's...terrific 2nd option.

Thats why lebron is better than Kobe.

but the point still remains that FG% is overrated. Who's better Iverson or Birdman?

FG% Is not the end all be all, but you can't disregard it altogether either IMO.

Since when are offensive rating and fg% the same thing?

I'll agree with you on scorer. He has a better variety of ways to score. Defender it's no use in discussing. Closing I can't call it. Both were/are great at it.

Efficiency is about making the right play at the right time. If it means to shoot, shoot. If it means to pass, pass. Usually, if a shot is presented to you and you passed it up, it hurts the chemistry of the team because then everyone has to improvise their positioning. Teams like the Spurs know when to shoot and when to make that second pass. Teams like the Heat are just getting by with talent and athleticism. The Heat rely on defensive efficiency to get easy offense for better FG%.

KD shooting 50% and Lebron shooting 57% isn't such a noticeable gap when you watch them play.
