- after this season, kobe will have been on the lakers team for 50% of the time hes spent living and breathing. pretty remarkable.

from reddit some quick ones:

John Stockton, despite being the all-time leader in assists and steals, as well as games played at his position (1,504), never had a regular season triple double. The one and only triple double he ever achieved was in the playoffs, in his 17th season, in a loss.

Rick Barry wore a wig for an entire season

Latrell Sprewell once fought Jerome Kersey in practice, left, and came back with a 2x4. He didn't get a chance to use it, but he did threaten to leave again and come back with a gun. This is the much lesser known Latrell story, compared to the PJ choking and the "feed my family comment"

Stephen Jackson has a tat of praying hands holding a glock on his stomach
Manute Bol killed a lion with a spear once

Qyntel Woods once got pulled over and had no ID. He offered the police his basketball card as proof of identification

Carl Lewis was once drafted by the Bulls

What? :biggums:

a few seasons back, when he was on the rapts, there was a crunch time game vs the lakers, where casey decided to put butler in during the closing minutes. he had yet to play that game, so these would have been his first minutes. he was appointed as the in bounder, but failed to get the ball in, resulting in a 5 second call. casey immediately pulled his ass out of the game, resulting in a DNP (since technically, he didnt log 1 second on the floor) and 1 turnover.

Nice thread, breaking out some of my cards on this one :D

Caron Butler didn't play his first college game until he was 20.

Mario Chalmers at the time of his drafting, became just the fourth Alaskan to play in the NBA and the third in his family to do so. 2 of the remaining 3 were his cousins Lionel Chalmers & Chris Smith.

Dell Curry, Steph Curry's father, was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles coming out of college.

Shawn Marion wore the number 31 in honor of Reggie Miller.

In 04-05 Bobby Simmons for the L.A. Clippers became the first ever D-League product to win a major NBA award by being crowned that year's Most Improved Player averaging 2.7 ast, 6 reb and 16 pts a game with a .466 FG%, .435 3P % & .846 FT%. After an almost similar year with Mil the year after, he has fallen off the map.

Well known already but always fun to read, from wikipedia:

Steve Kerr and Robert Horry, another famous reserve player and clutch shooter, alternated NBA Championships for a decade, and combined to win 12 championships over a 14-year period. Either Horry or Kerr was on the roster of an NBA Finals team from the 1993-94 season through the 2002-03 season, with every one resulting in a victory. Horry's teams were victorious in the NBA Finals in 1994, 1995, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2005 and 2007, while Kerr's teams were winners in the NBA Finals in 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999 and 2003. Each won three titles playing for Phil Jackson-coached teams and two with the San Antonio Spurs coached by Gregg Popovich.

Chauncey Billups played in 7 straight conference finals with Detroit and Denver (in 2 different conferences including back to back finals with Detroit). He joined Magic Johnson, Michael Cooper, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and Kurt Rambis as the only players to accomplish this feat since the Boston Celtics of the 1950s and 1960s led by Bill Russell. - wikipedia

He won a ring on the Pistons squad when they beat the star studded Lakers in 04. He also won the Finals MVP. That Pistons team and the 08 Celtics are the only teams to beat a Phil Jackson coached Finals team. :applause:
