Comcast Cable
assuming you have Triple Play through them where they provide your phone, internet, and cable
assuming you have at least 2 boxes for a upstairs and downstairs
assuming you are on their most advantageous plan where they throw in movie channels package for around the cost of just having the stuff from above.
and when i am paying for league pass its like mid $250's with installment plan.
what am i doing wrong here?

yeah thats why i'm asking.
But i think all of the stuff i listed for what it pays for are necessities. i mean phone, internet, and cable tv, which is most of the cost of what i'm paying. thing is they get me with having 2 cable boxes too, and there is no way around this if i want cable upstairs and downstairs. they get me on modem cost which is minimal but still.

Split the wires from the box and run it to whichever room you want it. If you watch more outside then have the box outside and run it upstairs. If you watch up stairs then run it downstairs.
How much for one extra box? I want to know because since you have a two story home, it may be time consuming to run the wires but very easy.

Damn! That's ridiculous! Where I'm at the triple play is only $99.
Don't do that split thing 9er talking about cause comcast internet runs through the cable outlet and if you got 2 boxes on it along with the modem your internet will be very slow.

Definitely not the only one. It's ridiculous. They overcharge like crazy for those damn boxes too.
And I think they know it. I recently called up TWC planning on canceling cable TV and just going with internet, and the person I talked to tried everything possible to keep me from doing it. Offered me a lower package price real quickly just to keep me from canceling, so you know their profit margins have to be exorbitant.

I guess it's not that bad - phone, internet, and cable.
It really depends how much you, and your family use the cable. Clearly, that is where most of the "entertainment" cost is going for in your bill.
Internet + phone shouldn't be very expensive. Sub $60 in my opinion. I assume you all have cell phones on top of the regular house phone anyways right? Should be able to do internet/phone/cable for under $130 I'd say.

If I could give my money directly to the NBA, NFL, HBO, AMC, etc. and bypass a cable company all together, I would do it. Without hesitation. Just deliver me the content I want, nothing more, and do it at a fair price. And I'd get my internet through Google Fiber. That's my fantasy. One day.

After trying several "bundles" I finally said fVck it and got a combo that works. The only thing I use cable for is internet ($14/mo), DirecTV with HD DVR ($57/mo.) cell phones ($80/mo.) Got rid of the land line. If it weren't for sports I'd get rid of the DirecTV.

I keep one in my mountain house because cell coverage there is spotty at best. I wouldn't want to be in a 911 situation and have no bars. That being said, cell coverage is improving and hopefully I'll be able to cancel that line in a few years.

Here is my breakdown
HD Preffered Plus XF 139.99
Bundle includes digital preffered with HBO, Starz access to Premium on demand, streampix, HD tech fee, internet service, and digital voice
Korean channel 14.99
Additional outlet svce(2 cable boxes i mentioned) 9.95 each = 19.90(this is what i call raping)
DVR service 8.00 (these assholes didn't have any normal cable boxes left anywhere locally where i was forced to get a DVR box when my previous box went bad but i just got this credited the other day)
digital adapter service 1.99 (don't know wtf this is?!!)
modem lease 8.00
Service protection plan 3.95
change of service - video(?) 2.99
broadcast TV fee 1.50
Granted i do have HD service which i forgot about but they said something about i had to have it if i want any channels above 100 if that makes sense? also got extras like korean channel so yeah i do have some luxuries which are my fault but still seems excessive.
I don't mind paying a little extra but some of these charges feel like they should be free with the packaging i have. like cable boxses should be free if i got cable with them, like they're double and triple dipping.
thing is even a downgraded package i only save like $30~ from HD to normal. also theres like another $10~ in taxes and surcharges BS.

lol i know man. its a lot my fault i guess but i swear when i call in for explanations and reductions they make it seem like i can't save much by going on lower plans where keeping what i have seems worth the somewhat little extra costs. but yeah some of those little differences adds up too.

Trust me, I was in the same situation. Even though I can afford it, it seems ridiculous to have a cable bill that much. Heck, I complain about cellphone bill too.
If you think about a cell phone bill plus cable bill, you would be looking at car payments. It is pretty insane, unfortunately these are now considered luxuries.
Years ago, when cable was cable, with those black analog boxes, it was cheap. Fast forward today, what they did was gave you a bunch of improvements you don't need, except HD because I like it, the rest you don't need. Perhaps DVR, it's nice to blast through commercials with all that they jack the prices. I hate when they jack the prices for features and functions you didn't ask for.

How much is your cell phone and how much is the digital voice portion of the cable bill? If you get good cell coverage you could drop voice from your plan. Also, when negotiating with cable, just tell them that you're gonna switch to satellite. They start bending over backwards at that point.

yeah i just double checked and they only charge me $8 for voice service. thought it was $15 but looking at the bill its only $8...and thing is i've had this landline number for awhile so people i know from awhile back know it and not my newer cell. its like having a old email everyone knew you by where its hard to get rid of it(which is another situation i'm in LOL and actually paying for 5.95 email service with a company but won't even get into that right now).
but yeah i'm going to have to really start cutting stuff and dealing with whatever headaches and issues that come with it i guess.

That's called the "Retention Department." Anytime a customer calls in wanting to cancel they take over and offer you a new temporary "special" to lure you to stay. Once your Triple Play promo expires this trick can save you a good $20 - $30 monthly.

i don't use most of it. like in terms of pay channels HBO is like the only one i regularly will watch but thats only for Game of Thrones and maybe catch a few random movies every so often. i think theres like 1 or 2 other shows i might watch on HBO i can't remember right now. I don't even know what streampix is, don't ever watch anything on Starz but that stuff is included in the package. Most of those HBO, showtime, etc. pay channels are horrible other than the TV series. their movie programming is so bad.
i like having korean channel tbh. i don't think i'm going to cut that out. it also helps me learn korean or improve it some and i like some of shows.
and i do like having a assortment of random channels. i don't really even watch the mainstream shows but i channel surf when i'm watching and like survival shows(like naked and afraid or survivorman) which sometimes will come on the high channels when its not on the low ones. actually i like a lot of those Discovery shows like all of the gold rush shows lol. i don't plan my TV watching which is part of the problem, like i flick around whenever i'm in the mood hoping to find something i like so having an assortment is nice. i almost never watch ABC, CBS, or NBC unless its some big sports event but thats really the only reason why i'd want to keep those.
i guess options is the main reason i'm still keeping them even tho most of it is worthless. thing is Netflix and all of that other stuff just doesn't give me the live relevant shows and i hate watching stuff that came on a year after the fact when it hits Stream services.
also i need to have stuff when people come over so its not like its just about me otherwise i'd probably do just internet stream and laptop stuff.
but yeah my bills are stupid so i'm going to be doing something soon....

nope. thats the big downside going all stream. There is no service to get those channels that i'm aware of outside of cable, or maybe being in range with a antennae but good luck with that.

I get by with Usenet for $10/mo and Netflix for $8/mo and I really don't miss anything I used to watch with my $120+ cable subscription.
If you really miss cable channels you can always signup for something like http://www.ustvnow.com/ and get around 30 cable channels for $20-30/mo. I use their free account to watch stuff on cbs/nbc/fox/abc which is really useful for weekend sports.
