Not sure why but for some reason it feels like the construction of this thing went by me...I haven't really given this building any thought and I didn't realize it is about to be fully functional soon.

I've been to one of those buildings that you posted and if the One World Center is taller than it, this is one big ass freaking building.

I live in NY and haven't really paid much attention to it. How long did it take them to build it? Just yesterday I remember them having the two lights in memory of the Fallen. Now it's built and almost finished. Who's actually going to go in there at the top? I'll be afraid to, to be honest.

it's out in the middle of plenty of open land too...doesn't seem like there is much need for them to build upward

I read an interview with the architect. He showed his plans to the ruler of Dubai and that it would be something like 10% bigger than any other building in the world and the ruler said no, make it 60% bigger and walked out.
The next day he asked where the plans for the new building

It's weird, they did the outside of the building (finished it up) really quick while the frame felt like it took forever. So it felt like the building went up all of a sudden.

It's massively windy down there again. It feels like the winds swirl around the buildings. The WTC (original) was freezing around it. The winds were all over.

If you read that story man, it really sounds more like a woman who got wasted, had sex she regretted, and then tried to pull a money grab.

Im not saying SHE deserved to be charged with any crimes, besides maybe filing a false report, but the details dont sound like forced rape. They sound like regretted sex after drinking. I dont have any sympathy for those chicks.

it may be true in that particular case, but from what I understand that country is still centuries behind the modern world

For the record China and Saudi Arabia are currently both building buildings taller than any on this list.

we got a ton of snow this winter and when it melted the building was a slide for falling ice and snow; so much so that they had to close off certain areas. Not sure if they corrected this yet, but you'd think that the architects would have known better

Dubai's 420,000 citizens each have an average net worth of $17 million

This is the classic case of which average are you using mean or median.

There's 75 people in bar who's average (mean) net worth is $100,000.

Then Bill Gates walks in.

Now the average net worth is a billion dollars.

Also in Dubai, most of the people living there are not citizens.

right, I quite sure the article I got that from (here) (http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/story?id=3759878) meant the by law citizens...420,000 people

Actually that is the case for most new skyscrapers after an ice storm. The trade center is not fully occupied and not fully heated, so you can get sheets of ice building up.

It's was just news because it was the trade center.

The memorial with pools is pretty nicely done. You don't feel like you're in NYC right next to a highway. You really don't hear the city.

well it was news cause it was dangerous, but yeah they said once its occupied it would warm up. Seems a little odd that it wouldn't still be at least a minor problem

The Nakheel Tower project has been cancelled since 2009, unfortunately.

Yep, here are the tallest buildings currently under construction:
