Physical therapy is useful to regain full function of the knee, which occurs on average 4-5 months after surgery.

Russell Westbrook + meniscus tear + surgery + loose stitch failure + another surgery to correct the loose stitch = return in 6 months.

Derrick Rose + meniscus tear + surgery + no problems = ???

When will Derrick Rose return? Following the timetable set out by doctors he should be back right about now. Lets say he's playing it safe. Do you think he will return during the playoffs? And if not does he deserve criticism for sitting out in the playoffs two years in a row while being medically cleared to play?

Not even trolling tbh.

Seriously wondering why Derrick Rose isn't getting more backlash for straight up refusing to play in the playoffs when by all accounts, he should be ready to go. Last year he was medically cleared to play after the all star break and didn't even play in the playoffs. This year he's pulling the same shit again and no one cares.

If Rose had just been injured right now like Westbrook was last season and could return at the beginning of next season with a full season to shake off rust then I could see your point.

But this is a different scenario. He injured himself at the beginning of this season and wouldn't be ready to come back until the playoffs. It would make absolutely no sense for him to come back when the Bulls even with Rose are not legit contenders. You don't come back during the playoffs and try and shake off rust.

Yeah, he just needs to wait until the preseason next year to shake off the rust playing 30MPG vs 2nd units again

Wonder if we'll hear Thibs say he looks 100% just days after they get eliminated from the playoffs like last time :oldlol:

Because he's injured, it's his knees and real life. It's not 2K14 where the only consequence is being a rating 72 instead of 88.

You seriously think Rose isn't playing just because he doesn't want to?

I'm a Chicago guy, and it's pretty obvious Rose is never going to be the same. I'm not expecting much. Don't even really care if he comes back now. Those knees are super fragile, even given his prior insane durability, and athletic ability. Something just went from in that 2012 season. Started missing all kinds of games, and was never the same. Then the ACL tear.

A meniscus tear after and ACL is a whole different reality with athletes.

D-Rose might be this generation's Grant Hill. With all the talent he have, he's plague by injuries. I don't think he will be the same again although hopes he returns to his 2011 form or better. He's one of the most exciting players in the league to watch.

I loved watching Rose play, just sucks seeing him sit out the playoffs like last year when he was reportedly cleared to play after the all star break.

Maybe he's scared shitless Thibs would throw him out there with 40 minutes his first game back. Maybe the management is refusing to let him play. I don't know.

I just feel like those who play through pain and don't sit out longer than they need to when recovering from an injury typically get less injuries. The mentality plays a big part in it.

hoop as in? at the gym? Shit, I'm in the gym like 5-10 hours a week just hooping or shooting baskets.

Everyone who plays sports knows that that ***** worried about getting hurt is more likely to get hurt than those who dont give a shit.

Part of it is a bit of an inverse effect of a self fulfilling prophecy. less likely to get hurt not playing awkwardly to avoid injury

This thread is calling me out. Look buddy as someone who suffered from both meniscus repair (then removal) on one leg and the ACL repair on the other, I will let you know something..... Suffering both those injuries within the space of one year fuks you up, it takes time. Why do you think rose blew out his other knee? because the human body is connected a weakness on one side leads to over work of the other. its simple.

When the weight of the leg does any type of compensation it can affect the other knee. Just as Rose seemingly had visually rid himself of a limp or favor he tore his meniscus.

If Rose doesn't heal fast that might be his reality. That just might be a fault in his body. Hopefully it isn't but I can't see other young men worrying about it unless he owes them money and can't make it to them. You taking on your personal crusade will get you nothing. Or maybe you can share some light on this.

DRose still has fans but in my case, I've come to accept the fact that we can't rely on him to stay healthy. Melo, please come to Chicago!

You're a f u c k I n g fool. What do you know? Nothing. Are you his doctor? Are you him? He was injured not long after a major injury, what about that do you not understand. Yes, he gets paid a shit load of money to perform but he's not paid a shitload of money to play hurt and potentially hurt himself worse. We aren't talking about playing through an ankle sprain. This is a dude who has had two surgeries in the last year and a half or so give him a break. I'm not even a a Rose fan, I'm just a human being who isn't a moron. I don't even like his game. Grow up you p u s s y. What if this were you? I'm sure you'd listen to some fat punk on a message board and come back according to whatever timetable a google search turned up.

I don't care anymore how long it will take Rose to recover, I just want the Bulls to be prepared for their future with or without Rose. We have a great team right now and hopefully we add more pieces that would bring us closer to a ring.

And yeah Chi-fans, I know all of you ****ing hate me.

Feels even worse saying it, about a guy on my favorite team, a guy from my city no less. It's very depressing. But it is what it is ...

Those nagging injuries in 2012. The way he lands on those knees lends itself to injury. Being overworked by Thibs who plays January games in a shortened season like it's game 7 of the Finals. Too stupid to realize it's a marathon, not a sprint.

Leaving him in during an opening round playoff blow out. The ACL tear. All that tentativeness in Derrick's psyche. Missing a whole season. Coming back looking 70% of what he was pre injury to start the season, at times brutally terrible.

Then another knee injury on the opposite side? Showing he hadn't fully recovered, and mentally was over working the opposite side. Now missing the rest of the season for an injury that should take 2 to 3 months max to come back from?

Not wanting to be there for the playoffs?

Pretty sure he's done. MVP caliber D. Rose was buried the second he blew out that initial ACL.

I mean the guy has missed 2 seasons of basketball. That's a lot of time. People have surpassed him, new guys making their bones. This isn't the GOAT, MJ we're talking about here.

Where you can miss 2 seasons essentially and come back to still be clearly the best player in the game. He doesn't have those kind of skills, mental toughness, intelligence, confidence or intangibles.

You just gotta feel for the guy, fan or not.

Being at that level of a sport and not being able to play it, its like losing his lively hood....

Whether or not he ever comes back 100%, its hard to say. It sucks losing a player of his caliber to injuries. (See Brandon Roy)

Imagine an NBA world where Oden, Roy, Rose, and even Yao Ming was still playing...
