While missing the playoffs would definitely suck, I think getting destroyed in the playoffs would be an embarrassment to Melo on a much deeper, much more personal level. Can you imagine how much it would burn him up if he got torched by Lebron, Bosh, and Wade - his fellow 2003 draft members and extremely close friends? No doubt he would hate missing the playoffs, but I think getting humiliated by those 3 guys or even an up and coming star like Paul George would eat away at him a bit more.
