I took in a new pet mini-doodle (Cross golden retriever/Poodle Mini) named Twinkie. She's about 6 in human years. She's well trained and super playful. She has already bonded with my son and now he has a childhood companion.

We actually rescued her from her previous household. Although this dog is well trained, the previous owners were going to put this dog down. The reason being is they were on their third child and have another 2 dogs. We heard this through a member of the church. I thought how stupid to just put a dog down because it is an inconvenience?!? Not even giving her up for adoption or even an ad for free dog to a good home.

Anyways, I couldn't stand for this so I took the dog in our home. I'm glad I did because this dog is a treat. Just took her to the vet last week too to get her registered and this dog is in perfect health.

I don't have a pic but here's what she looks like:

You actually literally saved the dog life who has zero chance of surviving because they didn't want to give it up for adoption or anything. Slim to none chances of surviving and you were there at the right time and place.

It's meant to be then.

Good move on your part.

Free dogs are always the most expensive.

That part I didn't understand. Why the owners didn't take the effort to simply place an ad or go to a local animal shelter

Anyways I think it was. This dog is a perfect fit in our home

Are they really? Explain. What extra costs am I to expect?

That's the thing. They're unexpected. Are you sure the dog has no health problems? It seems peculiar they would already own two dogs but be willing to kill the third.

We rescued a Chow on the highway 8 years ago.

Covered in fleas
Heartworm
Tapeworm
Breast cancer (surgery)
Spayed

All together about 1500.

We just had him back from the vet last week to get a check up and have her registered and there were no health concerns. But I see what you mean.

Dogs are so old school. Im thinking about being a snake charmer (no homo). Look at this dude, so cool.

you'll pay $50 every month or two to keep it groomed. i have a miniature poodle. My sister rescued it years ago, it was abused and left in the wild to fend for itself. Hope you don't feel a certain way when it wants nothing to do with you because you're a male. mine is real old and all it does is cry when there are no females home. mine is a male, maybe yours will respond differently. poor thing can't even get up the stairs anymore and lost it's hearing a couple years ago. not even really sure how it's still kicking.

I have a rescue Newfoundland that's been with us for 5 years. She's warmed up to me quite a bit but every now and then when I reach out to pet her she shies away like I'm going to hit her. Breaks my heart.

You just have to get the tools to do it your self and keep up with it regularly. Our Chow-Samoid takes a lot of work.

i figure the pound and put to sleep isn't so bad since there isn't pain but the owners that beat their dog and dog fighting people are what gets me. i have a hard time reading news or watching shows with that stuff. kills me.

Awww... That is so sad that the dog experienced that he/she is reminded to this day.

My pup is super playful. She's trained, she can stay, she is great with kids. I really am curious to how this dog could not fit in that families environment. My only thoughts are costs. But it boggles my mind they would think of putting her down

I haven't had it groomed yet. Her hair doesn't seem to grow. It's super curly, almost afro like. She's actually very affectionate. She follows around my wife mostly but she does love to be around people. I guess I'm lucky that this dog did not come from an abused household

Hopefully she takes after the poodle side and really does have hair vs fur.. Our Mini Schnauzer has hair and I can tell you after having Golden Retrievers having a dog that doesn't shed is such a treat...

And like Dueces said go get your self some trimming tools and learn to groom her yourself... One decent set of electric trimmers is the same as one trip to the groomers, your dog has curly hair so if you keep it a bit long you can kinda of hide your mistakes...lol Took me about 3 times but I got it down and a traditional Schnauzer cut is tricky...

Yeah my Chow is like that. I feel bad. She's also really ornery and kind of a bitch some times but I still love her.
