He's a democrat, so this will certainly get no play on this message board, and will likely be no more than a footnote in the mainstream media.

The guy is part of a group of pols that are close buds with Obama and was a big part of getting the DNC to come to Charlotte in 2012.

I voted for his opponent fwiw.

The FBI just got a guy in California too. (http://www.mercurynews.com/crime-courts/ci_25423273/leland-yee-indicted-corruption-bay-area-fbi-state-senator)

True. It really has no importance outside of the city if it weren't for the POTUS connection. Our pres has consorted with some pretty shady characters in Chicago and elsewhere (see current transportation sec Foxx).

any big city dem/or repub is going to have deep connections to the current party in office. The parties are all linked up and organized, even on a local level. You just can't decide you are going to run as a dem or a repub. You could theoretically do so, but you'll be raped in the primaries unless you got a big bank roll. You need support from your local dems and repubs. You often see rich guys run as independents because they can't get the nod of their real party.

Cleveland has just had a big corruption scandal involving a county commissioner and county auditor, and most recently one of the suburbs is in the midst of a case fixing/brothel scandal.

In the case of our county commish, similar allegations, that he "solicited bribes" but in his case the bribes were from contractors he knew for over twenty years and they were things like 5 gallons and ice cream and some work on his patio. Extremely politically motivated as his investigation commenced at the midterms and his indictment came out 2 years after the fact a few months before the presidential election. This commish got 28 years, which is ridiculous considering the allegations. He was a dem and the judge that sentenced him was a George W. appointee.

It amazes me that people at these levels think no one will ever get wise to their bullshit.

people kiss their asses so much that they start believing what the ass kissers tell them. They begin to exert their influence without thinking what they are doing is necessarily wrong.

somebody in Queens too

Is there some kind of employee of the month deal going on at the FBI? Just today, they've busted a California state senator and the mayor of Charlotte, as well as raiding the offices of an state assemblyman in New York?

Well the mayor resigned last night. The confederacy of dunces that is the Charlotte City Council will appoint someone to serve out his term. Some excerpts from the Charlotte Observer:

Then-Mayor Patrick Cannon, arrested this week on federal corruption and influence-peddling charges, bragged to undercover FBI agents that he had connections that might be valuable – stretching from Charlotte to the White House, according to federal documents.

At one point last fall, Cannon boasted to an agent posing as a businessman that Cannon and his wife were attending a party with President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama, according to an affidavit filed in the federal courthouse in Charlotte.

Cannon, a Democrat, also described how he would meet with the president and several of his department heads, suggesting to the agent that his access to the White House and members of Congress would secure grants for Charlotte’s streetcar project, the affidavit says. The agent, working as part of a three-year sting operation against Cannon, had expressed interest in developing property along the line.

A White House official declined to comment on Cannon’s arrest
