Wade's a great player but I wouldn't say he has a great midrange game. He's been improving on it basically his whole career but he never had an elite shot.

I find it completely odd that nobody has Oscar Robertson on their list.
He's arguably the greatest mid-range shooter in basketball history. I'd estimate that about 95% of his baskets were scored from mid-range, and his accuracy/efficiency was tremendous.
If anyone made a living off the mid-range shot, it was Oscar Robertson.

Exactly. I seriously doubt that any knowledgeable fan here has ever heard of Oscar, or that he had the only triple-double season in NBA history. Same with players like Wilt (100 points in a game), and Russell (11 rings.) Completely forgotten.

Mid-range SCORER (as opposed to strictly mid-range shooter) has to be Jordan, followed closely by Bird. Both were able to work on or off the ball, pull-up, post-up, use defenders' vision and momentum against them, and just had an unparalleled feel for when and how to get shots off in the mid-range area.
After that I'd say Kobe, Dirk, Pierce (Paul and Ricky), Vinnie Johnson.

Probably Bird, MJ, Dirk and Oscar for top4 then it's hard to tell, even before it is. You got dudes like Gervin, Nash, West, Kobe, Durant right now also Curry, McAdoo, Pistol, Rick Barry, Rip Hamilton, Pierce... English was a beast from close, it's outside of the paint so I guess you'd call it mid-range, he was just insane from there even though he didn't have that much range, similar for King, at his peak his jumper from close was virtually unstoppable.

Well said. Good drop on Ricky Pierce and Vinnie Johnson, underrated players.. That reminds me of Eddie Johnson, another great 6th man and great shooter.

Gott'a give Chris Paul a shout out. He's pretty good with his midrange. This year he is having a bad year with only 43%. Prior to this season, he was averaging 49% at the mid range. He had years above 45%. Usually he average 47% at the midrange.

I know, it was a close choice, went with Chris because i just so happened to catch his peak a bit in the early 90s... the guy was nothing but midrange jumpshots... some seasons you would rarely even see him take 3PT shots (unlike Dirk)... it was all midrange... up to 27 ppg... up to 54% FG.... hence at his peak i think he might have been more productive from midrange than Dirk....

If you got down to it the legendary 3 ball guys might be the best shooters, if they are open it's swish. Guys like Kiki, Steve Kerr, Reggie, Curry all might have an argument. But guarded... double and triple teamed?
mcadoo and bird, oscar, jordan and west.
sam jones of course is right behind. But Bernard King is right there, so is Elvin Hayes, when he was on he had amazing accuracy from anywhere. Dan Issel had a sweet jumper. Gervin & Calvin Murphy could score in torrents.
That said, that's all older guys. Current players who are RIGHT THERE but still have to put in the work are Kevin Durant, Kevin Love, Marshmallow, Dirk.
edit ~ that old man Ray Allen was pretty much amazing in his days.

Except for some 30 sec. highlight i havent seen him play. Ive seen a couple of games with Jerry West though, that pull-up J from midrange was nasty & plentiful.

Great post! I view the question as who has the best arsenal in the midrange area. Not to diminish a guy like Rip Hamilton who ranks on a list. But he isn't on the level or dominance as guys like MJ, West, Bird, Kobe, Big O, and Gervin. Perimeter wise, those are my top six guys. Other greats perimeter wise are Pierce, King, English, Dantley. Big man wise, Dirk and McAdoo take it for me.
Surprised nobody mentioned Ewing as far as big men go...
