Say, if duncan played with shaq instead of kobe don't you think that:

- shaq never leaves cuz duncan is all about team
- they go on to win something like 8 straight

Duncan > kobe sons.

Separately, they already won 8 in:
1999
2000
2001
2002
2003
2005
2006
2007

so the years in question, together:
1998 - do they beat Hakeem? I think so
2004 - yes
2008 - no

Wilt badly outplayed the man whose TEAM won 11 rings, in their EIGHT playoff H2H's. As well as crushing him in First-Team All-NBA voting in the entire decade that they played together.

Can Kobe make those claims?

Another man not named Wilt was voted GOAT in '80.

Kobe was voted 00's GOAT.

Not really. He was only their second best player in three of them. And his Finals "flop jobs" are legendary (even in wins.)

Russell was voted GOAT by sportwriters in 1980. Chamberlain held a 7-2 margin in first-team All-NBA voting in the 60's, and when they were actually playing...by sportwriters. Obviously the sportswriters who voted for Russell in '80 never even saw the two play.

Kobe was voted MVP in ONE season in the '00's. Shaq was clearly the better player in the first half of that decade, as was Duncan. And by the late 00's Lebron had surpassed Kobe.

I don't need links. Chamberlain won a solid MVP over Russell in his ROOKIE season. And by the mid-60's he was running away with three straight MVPs. And again, he routed Russell in first-team's in the entire decade. The evidence was overwhelming, Chamberlain was easily considered the better player.

As for Kobe, he was considered the best player in the league in ONE season. He was nowhere the player Shaq or Duncan were in the first half of the decade, and again, by the late 00's, it was Lebron winning MVPs.

Again, the evidence is overwhelming. Kobe was seldom considered the best player in the league, and in his prime. Chamberlain was overwhelmingly considered the best player when he was playing.

Over 70,000 votes give Kobe 66.5% for player of the decade

BOILED DOWN...

Chamberlain with a 7-2 margin in first-team All-NBA's when the two were actually playing (and not 20 years later by a panel of sportswriters who obviously did not see one game between the two)...and then just slaughtering Russell in H2H play in the post-season.

And Kobe winning some popularity contest does not overcome the FACT that NO ONE considered him a better player than Shaq or Duncan in the first half of the decade of the 00's, or the fact that Lebron had surpassed him by the late 00's, and has run away from him since.

ESPN's "experts" tabbed Wilt ahead of Russell in 1999...(and Kareem.)

So, if you are going to use some ridiculous voting in 1980, and long after the actual Russell-Wilt battles, then I can use another on in 1999.

Not really much of a debate in my eyes. Duncan has always been better than kobe. He just has a better and bigger impact on games than kobe. A great big > a great small.
