I believe this to be true. I don't have any proof, but I'm almost sure of it.

Yes it happens all the time. Did you just start watching the NBA or something?
Western teams are probably doing this to avoid playing Memphis

Didn't Boston do it some years back so they could play Atlanta in the first round?

Speaking of Memphis, didn't they completley tank it in during 2011, so they would end up playing the Spurs in the first round, cause the Spurs were a barley averge defensive team that year.

Pretty sure the Sixers did this 2 years ago to avoid a matchup with the Heat.

Dallas in 2007.. turned out to be a great idea.
Popovich did the same in 2010 in order to play the Mavs. Which actually worked. Popovich = genius.

How did Dallas tank? They were #1 seed.

Heat should tank and we might be lucky and get bulls or nets in the ECF
Not NBA but Spain purposely lost to Brazil in the 2012 Olympics so they wouldn't be against the US and settle for a bronze at best.

I don't think Indiana (if that's who you are referring to) is doing it on purpose. They made getting HCA their #1 goal. They have just been bad lately.
This thread backfired.

I was asking a serious question.
It would be nice if you guys listed years and games purposely lost.

This happens ALL THE TIME.
In 2011, I KNOW the Blazers WANTED the Mavericks. Mavericks and Lakers were in a Race for 2nd Spot, and the Blazers prefered the Mavs... who got the 3rd spot in the end.
Which ultimately, didnt matter as we saw history unfold :lol
