View Full Version : What do the Pacers do if they fail this season?

By that I mean not even making it back to the ECF? Expectations going into the season were that they were going to at least return to the ECF and a lot of people had them finally being the team to stop Miami. Now they're looking horrible and it's nearly the end of the regular season.

What do they need to do this offseason? Who should they let go? Who should they keep? Obviously Paul George, Roy Hibbert and Lance Stephenson are keepers. What about David West, George Hill, Bynum, Evan Turner and Luis Scola?

Millbuck said it best. They are built to beat the Heat, not win a championship. If their mindset is "Championship or bust" they will fail. They maybe can beat the heat but will get spanked by the West.

What? If they're capable of beating the Heat, they're capable of beating any team out West.

Not really. Hibbert can exploit the Heat but who is he going to exploit in the west? Duncan? Ibaka? Howard? Those guys can't be exploited like Bosh/Haslem can (credit to Haslem for absolutely torching HIbbert last time though). Indiana matches up perfectly against the Heat, but not against the West.

Nope. Their huge matchup problem with the Heat is the ONLY reason they'd get to the finals. Top to bottom, as an overall basketball team, they're really not that good. They're "capable" of beating OKC and San Antonio the same way the Warriors or Blazers are "capable" of coming out of the West. There's a chance, but nothing significant.

They have been poo on a stick lately for sure. They don't deserve a number 1 seed anymore.

They move the team to Seattle

That makes absolutely no sense.

So you're saying they can beat Miami who have won the championship the past two seasons in a row (beating the best teams from the West each season), but they wouldn't be able to beat the top teams from the West? :wtf:

They will get smashed by the Spurs or Thunder if they meet in the Finals.

What does a matchup vs Miami have to do at all with a matchup vs a completely different team?

They do what every team would. Re-group and try again, maybe make some moves in the offseason. Re-sign Lance.

They can beat the Heat but as people said already they wouldn't beat West champion.

There are people who really don't understand why OKC or the Spurs are much better suited vs Indiana than Miami? Let me break it down for you with two simple reasons, for starters:

Tony Parker and Russell Westbrook >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> George Hill.

Tim Duncan and Kendrick Perkins won't make Roy Hibbert on offense look like prime Shaq.

Well if the Pacers can beat the Heat and at least make a Final I think the organization will take that.

People here act like there must be some available "fix" for every single team that doesnt win the chip. Sometimes you have to just stay patient, tweak here or there, and hope for better luck next year. As soon as any team makes a conference finals or a finals twice in a row and loses, people talk about blowing it up. Sometimes the ball just doesnt bounce your way, and it can happen more than one year in a row. If youve been a legit contender, just be patient and keep fighting. Appreciate the fact that you're getting legit chances and not on the 7th/8th seed first-round-exit treadmill every year.

Sign & trade George + Turner + picks for Melo.

Blow it up. Trade George (and Hibbert package?) to get as high in this draft as you can. Resign Born Ready if it's reasonable. Build around Bynum.

../Stephenson/Wiggins/../Bynum.

Tell Bynum to have another bowling "accident" in the summer.

Parker stays for his sophomore year. Top 3 pick.

Do you understand the concept of "matchup problems"?

Tennis analogy:
- Roger Federer is widely considered the greatest tennis player of all time.
- Rafael Nadal has owned Federer for their rivalry, 23-10 H2H, 70% winning percentage against him.
- This means Nadal should own everyone else in the world right?
- Wrong. Nadal has lost 7 matches in a row to Novak Djokovic before, just got wrecked in the last match they played in, and has arguably been owned by Djokovic for a while now.

You're simplifying things way too much here.

I would expect the team that beat the "most stacked team of all time" in a 7 game series to be favored against any team out west.

First off, they learn to be humble and not act like the fvcking kings of the world after being a runner up in a historically weak conference.

Then they get the fvck away from Turner and Bynum, get some scoring, and try again.

They'll get spanked from every team coming from the west, tbh.
