My old job went bankrupt about two years ago. They owe me 3500 in checks. What should I do? I thought according to the law they supposed to pay us in a year. Is this true?

You clearly came to the right place for legal advice. I'm gonna assume that under bankruptcy law you're likely not getting your moeny.

Call a lawyer, did the company go into liquidation or anything for their assests? If so find out who's handling that and contact them about money owed. I doubt you will see anything.

A job can't go bankrupt.

It's probably not worth the pursuit at this point but you should still consult with an attorney just in case.

just a guess, but you unpaid employees are one of the creditors that your work was forced to settle with.

you people are a group-- you should find out what the terms of the deal were. you might have to declare / apply or something if you want to get whatever is coming to you.

go nets.

You'll spend more money pursuing that 3500 to be honest.

I figure unpaid employees would be high on the creditor priority list, but that's just a guess.

If you dont hear back from the lawyer in the morning, i'd call. would suck if you missed a deadline by a day or 2.

i hope OP figures it out. lost pay is no joke.

reading through this thread, i can't help noticing what we have so far:

ask a question on ISH and most bros tend to give reasonable replies. but then (as always) you get a couple dipshits whose self-appointed job it is to try to make other people feel bad. let's see who they are this time around. oh! it's:

Shabba Ranks

well, come to my arms, bros! come collect your prize! you guys rock and roll, and now it's time to recognise you well-meaning assholes.

in any case, there are a bunch of friendly dudes with huge stiffies who will be the second wave. you like second waves, don't you, shabba and AKRAZOTILE?

you need to talk to a lawyer. Don't try to go down the rabbit hole yourself. A lawyer won't charge you for an initial consultation to determine whether or not there actually is some hope for collection.
