I have a 2nd interview tomorrow for a position. This was in the email it send me:
I have had a few jobs in the past. 2 of the jobs will give good references. In the other job I had 2 supervisors. One is no longer with the company and the other still works there. The one that works there was nice to me and may have liked me, but the job I had for her was retention and I sucked at it so I am not sure she would give a great reference (if they ask for one). Should I just leave her off? Can they find out that she was my former supervisor?
The company was a contractor. The first job is gone and the 2nd retention job is what they do now. Could I list a former friend of mine who worked for the first job (but wasn't my supervisor) as my supervisor or would they be able to find out that she wasn't a supervisor?
Just put the other supervisor's name.

yeah, that could work. it's a risk, though.
depends on how precise &/or thorough the person in HR is.

Just leave the one that may give you a shit reference off. Also, if you haven't explicitly spoken to the person you are listing as a reference and confirmed they are ok with it, then you shouldn't be putting them as a reference anyway.
Let's just say I get the feeling you aren't applying for a molecular biologist position, so two good references should be sufficient.
