i dont see how harden and kyrie become such a liabilities on defense,

harden with the athleticism alone, with a little effort, should become a decent defender,

They're both athletic & quick, but on defense they run around like a chicken, whose head has been cut off. Literally.

Harden is terrible on defense because there is no accountability in Houston. When he was on OKC, I saw him battle Kobe a few times. I guess Westbrook and Durant forced him to play defense. So I know for a fact he can play it. He just won't in Houston.

Kyrie has the tools too. He has improved this year, but still has ways to go. There is time for him.

In OKC Hardon had a much smaller role on offense so he prolly expending more energy on offense and dont play D. He had decent man defense games in OKC but overall he was still sht

He has actually made some pretty nice strides defensively this season. The effort was not there in his first two years. That is no longer the problem. His effort level is vastly improved defensively. He still has some technique issues, especially on screens, but that is not uncommon for a young player who is so talented offensively. He still has a ways to go, but he hasn't been nearly as bad this year on that end as people make it out to be.

Outside of that, his decision-making and playmaking have improved considerably. He's dropped his turnovers per game from 3.2 last year to 2.7 this year even though he's playing career minutes/games, which has been an important development. He has been much less careless with the ball.

Meanwhile, he's also averaging a career-high assist number, which means his A/TO ratio has improved dramatically. And, he's averaging 7 assists per game since Spencer Hawes joined the roster and gave the Cavs a semblance of outside shooting.

He's also on pace to play in 70+ games, which is a very nice development considering probably the biggest critique of him in his first two years was that he gets hurt too much.


So, his improvements have been visible both defensively, in his focus and in his playmaking. I also find it funny that a 21-year-old is called a "waste" because his team is only managing to be in the 35-win range in his third year, while also being the second youngest roster in the NBA and also under a new coach/system.

For a little perspective, Steph Curry's GSW team won 23 games in his third season... and he was a full two years older than Kyrie is right now.

The standards have been set ridiculously high for Kyrie.
