View Full Version : Who's got the longest range in the NBA currently? All time?

Who's got the deepest range, now and all time? I don't mean guys like Bosh or Harden who are half-court threats on a last second shot. I'm talking about the guys who can stand several feet behind the 3 and let it fly, and you better guard em when they do. So these are guys who have the ability to hit it from deep and actually take deep shots, not ONLY when they are forced to.

Vince Carter hits some insanely deep 3s. Mirza Teletovic has a lot of range as evidenced by youtube vids, but doesn't seem to shoot from quite as deep in the NBA. Carlos Delfino hit some retarded shots but is hurt now. What yall think?

edit: I know Curry has range, guys. He's a freak of nature the likes of which we haven't seen, I was talking more about 3pt specialists who have range AND demonstrate range.

#30 for the Warriors, and #35 for the Thunder

Back when Reggie Miller played, some commentators joked that the NBA needed a 4pt line just for him.

Can't decide between Durant and Curry. Kobe used to have some absurd range as well.

Who's that point guard that plays for Golden State... # 30-something...erm, he's like 6'3, half and half, can't think of his name...

He got insane range doe.

Oh, and that tall skinny guy who scores a lot of points for the Thunder.

Those already mentioned and Arenas. The guy used to pop 5 feet beyond the line.

Lots of guys have that range and never show it. I've seen Garnett crank out almost half court shots like he's shooting free throws. Jimmer is terrible but his range is pretty on point. He can make those shots too, he just can't create any space in the NBA to get off a shot.

Well i know Kobe could/can drop some insanely beautiful long bombs... Bron too though. He's hit kind a few like that one vs Celtics 2012 ECF G7, the 4th quarter killer...

Where hes defended tightly on the left side, but needs to get a shot up, stops on a dime, pops up, bang.

No..the final play was in OT and he was blatantly fouled on a 3 to win.

Arenas seems the most obvious choice to me. The dude used to pull up and pop 30 footers with problem, seemingly always at the buzzer.

Alltime I believe everyone should be saying Dan Majerle. The guy would shoot 3's at a minimum of 3ft behind the line. And it wasnt for showoff reasons ala Arenas, you could tell it was where he was comfortable at

this was pretty good as well

Kobe's average 3pt% has always come from taking the toughest shots behind the arc, seems like every game I watch he tries to get at least one of them in, he's hit some impressive deep 3's over his career, this one is my favorite, mostly because of the classic reaction by Wade, but damn, that 3 is ICE COLD

As far as not changing up their form? Vince, Lebron, Gilbert and T-Mac are the guys. Everyone else seems to shoot more from the hip once they start getting further out.

Vince is clear cut number one for me though. Guess it's the crazy drive he has in his legs due to the massive vertical leap. Makes sense that Lebron and T-Mac are some of the best at it too.

Some of those set shots dudes from the 40's and early 50's had ridiculous range, not even joking, by the 1960's the effective range of players looked like it almost got cut in half after the jump shot became favorable to the set shot, only in recent years have players drifted back out to almost 30 feet when shooting

How exactly does the set shot work? You sort of "catapult" or "overhead pass" the ball into the hoop using both hands? Are we talking that Noah/KG two-handed shot, without their jump hitch?

I can't hit half court shots by snapping my wrist on a non-jump shot, not with any consistency. I'd need to heave the ball.
