View Full Version : Phoenix Suns: Best 8th seed ever? Upset potential?

Enough with the Lebron/KD threads...the Suns haven't been talked much about lately but I feel like this team has potential to pull off a HUGE upset. Anyone agree?

I feel like any team that plays unselfishly and fast paced that can shoot can cause issues for the Spurs

They might win a game

The Spurs will systematically pick them apart. The Suns need a star wing player/big and they'll be legit.

Knicks made the Finals as the 8 seed in 1999. Pretty sure they are considered the best 8 seed ever.

Dallas and Memphis have a much better chance for upsetting the top 2 seeds

maybe I'm biased but PHX played most of this season without Bledsoe..he's back and he looks like he never left...PHX matches up with SA pretty well with the exception of Duncan but Plumlee is a lot more mobile and athletic.

Man stop. They aren't even in yet. I will say these games the rest of the season will determine whether they really want to play or go home. Their playoffs actually start tonight. They can't slip but 1 maybe 2 more times. 2 is pushing it.

They need to make the Playoffs first.

:facepalm

This is big time disrespect to all of those great WCF 8th seeds who made it in in the late 2000's. There were probably even some 9th and 10th seeds from back then who were better than this Suns team.

Spurs are the absolute worst possible matchup for PHX IMO

Grizz from '11 were good. Warriors from '07.

i think a lot of you guys haven't been watching many Suns games this season but they are WAY better than their record suggests.

No way in hell they upset a top seed.

5-4 - 3-3
11-4 - 17-16
8-3

What is that?

24-11 w/Godsoe = .685
20-19 w/o Godsoe = .512

And the Spurs are basically as good as their record suggests. Suns have no chance.

Eh alright, yeah I'll give em that. I mean to say the Spurs are overwhelmingly favored to win it though. I would be SHOCKED if Rook Hornacek took down Pop, since both teams are very... "team" based teams.

If Ewing was his, say 96 self in those 99 playoffs, do the Knicks beat the Spurs?

The Grizzlies are clearly better than the Suns. They have been a top 3 team pretty much since January 1st.

No one wants to see them in the first round. That's why the Spurs having that 1st seed could be a curse in disguise...

Either the Suns or Memphis would have a good case for being the best 8 seed of all time:

1. Both had a key player injured for a substantial stretch of the year and had a much better record when that player was playing, indicating they would have had a much better overall record if that player was never hurt
2. This year's 8 seed will have close to 50 wins which in most years would have them ranked much higher in the playoffs
3. This year's western conference is much, much tougher than a normal conference. Their win totals would have been even higher in a normal conference. Put one of these teams in the east and they might have won 55 games.

Every series in the west is going to be a war this year. It's absolutely possible that the Suns could score an upset. I do not think they would beat the Spurs but I think they would win one or 2 games in that series. Against OKC, I think they would probably push it to 6 or 7 games and would have an outside shot at an upset, even if the Thunder are playing their best game.

I would have a similar prediction for Memphis or Dallas.

If the suns or Memphis could take out take Spurs that would be nice.
