View Full Version : Does Portland pass Houston in the standings?

The season is winding down and Portland seems to be getting healthy and playing well. Houston is banged up and slumping. If this wasn't enough Portland has a relatively easy schedule to finish. All of Houston's final games look tough. This seems like the perfect storm in favor of Portland.

Yes or No?

If you look at it a certain way, everyone is ahead of Houston in the standings.

Pretty good, lots of home games. Looks like I'll be staying in Portland for a week.

Vs Suns
Vs Pelicans
Vs Kings
@ Jazz
Vs Warriors
Vs Clippers

That is 5 home, 1 away. None of the games are back-to-backs. Clippers are the only team with a better record than Portland. Half are over .500, half are under .500. Also, with Clippers being the final game, perhaps they rest starters if they clinch 3rd seed. Suns give Blazers fits though.

Rockets remaining schedule:
Vs Thunder
Vs Nuggets
@ Lakers
@ Nuggets
@ T-Wolves
Vs Pelicans
Vs Spurs
@ Pelicans

4 home, 4 away. 2 back-to-backs: Away game in Denver after LA, home game vs Pelicans after away game in Minny. Thunder and Spurs are the only teams with records better than the Rockets, they are also the only teams over .500. Spurs potentially rest starters, but they are also a strong team even without starters.

Rockets have 2 less losses than Portland and I don't know who has the tie breaker if they drop to a tie.

Not having Dwight these last 3 games really sucks. We could really use him and Beverley right now

When will Dwight likely return?

lol @ the serious responses

for Portland to have hca they need to go 6-0 and Houston 5-3

not happening.

Houston owns the tiebreaker, but Portland clearly has the more favorable schedule (also, Houston's injuries), so Houston really could lose the 4th seed and HCA.

Wait. I thought we had already given up on both teams anyway.

Still very unlikely.

Why not 5-1 and 4-4?

Given that Houston has the tie breaker, I do believe Houston will maintain HCA over Portland though.

Well, the Rockets closed out the past couple of seasons pretty poorly, and with McHale I can't say I'm too confident lol.

Injures is the only reason they are struggling right now the last 3 games...
