The Showtime Lakers played a team that won 42 games or less in the WCF I wanna say 3 times and one year they didnt get there it was a 40 win Rockets team vs a 40 win Kansas City Kings team. Two sub .500 teams...in the WCF.

Fans of the no defense soft ass west didnt mind then. Just cruise through setting scoring records on the Kings and beating up on upstarts lucky to be in the playoffs but somehow in the second and third rounds.

Its our turn to relax till the finals now.

This... Lakers had a cakewalk every year in the West.

I wouldn't say that, the Nets have given Miami a battle in the regular season games, watching Pierce & Lebron dual one more time would be epic.

Teams in the 80's West:

The Defending champion Sonics in 1980
Drexler's Blazers
Robinson/Nance/Johnson Suns cracking 50 wins every year.
Sampson/Hakeem Rockets
Blackman Mavs
Stockton/Malone Jazz
Gilmore/Gervin Spurs

Lakers also beat Sixers, Pistons, and Celtics in the finals.

Not to mention the 90's West was loaded with legit contenders, much moreso than the East.

The West has been miles better for 15 years now....

Those playoff matchups are tons more interesting than what we're actually going to get. You aren't getting hyped for Clippers/Bulls, Mavs/Warriors, Raptors/Pacers, Nets/Heat?

Suppose the league did away with conferences and divisions come playoff time and the top 16 teams overall made the playoffs. This is how the first round playoff picture would look based on the records as of April 4:

1. San Antonio
16. Minnesota

8. Golden State
9. Dallas

4. Miami
13. Chicago

5. Indiana
12. Toronto

2. Oklahoma City
15. Washington

7. Portland
10. Memphis

3. LA Clippers
14. Brooklyn

6. Houston
11. Phoenix

Breakdown by conference: 10 Western, 6 Eastern
Breakdown by division: 4 Southwest, 3 Northwest, 3 Pacific, 2 Southeast, 2 Central, 2 Atlantic

Now if all the top seeds won their series, the second round would look like this:

1. San Antonio
8. Golden State

4. Miami
5. Indiana

2. Oklahoma City
7. Portland

3. LA Clippers
6. Houston

Breakdown by conference: 6 Western, 2 Eastern
Breakdown by division: 2 Southwest, 2 Northwest, 2 Pacific, 1 Southeast, 1 Central

Instead of a Miami/Indiana Eastern conference final, they'd be a second round matchup.

Now if all the top seeds won the second round series, the third round would look like this:

1. San Antonio
4. Miami

2. Oklahoma City
3. LA Clippers

Breakdown by conference: 3 Western, 1 Eastern
Breakdown by division: 1 Southwest, 1 Northwest, 1 Pacific, 1 Southeast

Instead of a San Antonio/Miami finals, they'd be a third round matchup.

Instead of San Antonio playing either Oklahoma City or LA Clippers in the Western conference finals, they'd be a finals matchup.

So to humor you, suppose the NBA got rid of conferences and you had these Final 8 teams in Playoffs left

Lakers,Clippers,Golden State,Sacramento
Spurs,Mavericks,Rockets,Thunder

and in final four

Lakers,Clippers,Golden State,Kings

then Final being LAL-LAC

Who aside from California and Texas aside from Oklahoma would watch that or care

and if Finals was LAC-LAL
Los Angeles regardless of winner is guaranteed the championship,a parade and the trophy in LA---there'd be no home-away,all of la IS BASICALLY WE WON,PARADE TIME

The NBA shouldn't get rid of conferences but they should do like Hockey does in PO,adjust the seeds every round.

The higher seed always goes against lower seed, even though Hockey has a cap,I think adjusting this would work great and we'd be guaranteed at least
good WCSF,ECSF and to the WCF,ECF and then Final.

But this no,everybody is complaining about the East now but in the 60s,70s 80s and 90s the EAST Dominated and had the BEST Teams that were championship favs.
And even then there's always going to be losing teams either due to tanking or simply put not being better, these past years most of the EaST HAS SUFFERED THROUGH INJURIES AND PLAYER MOVEMENT.

iF YOU ADJUSTED IT,EITHER EVERY TEAM WOULD BE A 40-50 WIN TEAM WHEN THE eAST CATCHES UP THROUGH DRAFT or a 40-45 win team will get left out bc of no east-west,catch a huge draft pick and end up DOMINATING.

It'll be like say the Heat lose LeBron to injury for a season with Wade taking games off due to injury or rest and they only win 40-45 games and are left out,or the Spurs lose Duncan,Thunder lose Durant,Clippers lose CP3
they get a generational talent in draft and boom Unstoppable.

Pacers/Raptors and Nets/Heat could potentially face each other in the 2nd round anyways.

Hockey playoffs are different now.

2 vs. 3 in every division and the winner plus the winner of Division winner vs. WC.

For example Mtl and TB are 3rd and 4th in points in the East but will play in the first round because they finished 2nd and 3rd in their division.

The winner plays the winner of Boston vs. Lowest WC.
Boston is the top seed.

Columbus is the lowest WC and play Boston despite coming from the Metropolitan division.

Toronto is also chasing the 8th spot, currently one point back. If they make it they would be the 5th team from the Atlantic division to make it.

I hope that wasn't too confusing but probably fooling myself into thinking anyone cares bout Hockey.

90s--now-Pistons,Bulls,Knicks,Heat,Pacers,Magic,Hornets,76e rs,Nets,Cavs,Celtics,Bucks

90s to now--
Lakers,Rockets,Spurs,Mavs,Thunder,Suns

Lakers 5,Rockets 2,Spurs 4,Mavs 1
Bulls 6,Heat 3,Pistons 2,Celtics 1

12-12,Don't see a difference past 24 Years and East looks to be winner again
go back a year East is up 13-12

The Best Team wins Every Year, somehow don't see anybody complaining about the Weak West in the 80s and 90s

East over PAST 25 YEARS HAS WON MORE and aside from 3 teams and Mavs
Nobody in the West has won.

PAST 20 Years---
bulls-6,lal-5,spurs-4,heat-3
Bulls-6 finals
lal-7 finals
spurs-5 finals
heat-4 Finals
so in past 20 years---LAL and SA,CHI and Mia have dominated so whats the difference?

Last 10 years

LAL--4 Finals
Spurs-3 finals
Mavs-2 Finals
OKC-1 Final

Miami-4 Finals
Bos-2 Finals
Det-2 Finals
Cle-1 Final
Orl-1 Final

Which one is the more balanced one?

I like Hockey but damn Canada as a whole is just letting me down.
I'm a Habs and Leafs fan and dam it.
And no I don't count Vancouver cause well it's Vancouver.

I like the hockey format,it's more competitive fighting for a playoff spot and in the po,there's actually more highly contested games and chances for a lower seed winning are good compared to in NBA 5th seed or lower is basically dead or conference final material at best almost always.

If you look at the NBA now at BEST--
Bkn,Atl,Tor,cle or NY, is basically cf
same with west Mem,GS,Por,Dal or Pho
