The answer is obvious and Wilt knew it to

Wilt:Mikan was the player I was trying to be but could never emulate. I am lucky that I never played against him because if you thought that I could choke before then lawd a mercy I'd choke like I be eating too many grits, chitlins and ham hock.

So the last time you made this topic (There was an "or" instead of the "vs") didnt cut it? You needed to...for quite possibly the 85th time....make a brand new topic for the express purpose of hating on someone who helped lay the foundation for the sport we now love?

Its not enough that you go on with your absurdly dumbed down ___ won ___ titles and therefore ___ logic....in every topic the guy comes up in....you feel the need to make many many many many "new" topics to continue to push it.

A guy made it to the finals 6 times and won 2 rings while setting records so out of reach that modern media pulls arbitrary points in time out of their ass for the express purpose of not counting his feats while hyping the next guy headed to a "record".

Oh how awful. "Only" two rings. Only twice...did he do what some of the best ever...never did. And that unheard of rate of "failure" is all you need to sum up the career and life of a guy who led the league in points, rebounds, assists, and likely blocks, had the games rules shaped around him and made up on the fly to limit his dominance, and did it in an era he wore something like modern Dollar Store slippers for shoes, played in front of people who could call him a ****** and spit on him and get away with it, while somehow finding time to train to fight Muhammad Ali, win the big 8 high jump, get elected to one of the volleyball hall of fames, and be a 2 guard for the Harlem Globetrotters at 7'1''.....

And perhaps worst of all....to make your comparison you use the great George Mikan as a gotdamn prop because...of course...old days...he sucks...compare him to Wilt? Lol...right? Right guys? L...O...L. Mikan better career! Scrub ass Mikan > Wilt!

George Mikan did too much for the game to be given insincere respect from a guy who supposedly loves the game that might not even have survived without him. George Mikan played basketball in gyms we wouldnt put middle school kids in now and he did it with broken ankles, broken eye sockets, no team doctor, and only money enough to get by with nothing for the future. George Mikan gave the best years of his life to build a league that makes billions now....but let him die in debt ruined by the medical costs of maintaining a 7 foot body that got beat up every night in his youth.

No respectable pension...nothing.

Guy sells out MSG and keeps the league afloat and these billionaires let him go broke trying to stay alive...to the point Shaq has to pay for his funeral.

George Mikan and Wilt gave us the league we have today. And even if that doesnt matter to most people now....its a Laker fan belittling them!

George Mikan hung banners Laker fans still point to....Wilt Chamberlain put a banner in the rafters too.

And 40-60 years later they get clowned by fans of a league they set in motion?

Fans of a team they accomplished the ultimate goal for?

Im not asking people to have respect for their elders. That ship has long sailed. But its not too much to have some decency....

You dont like Wilt...dont like him. Think Mikan is unimpressive and therefore funny to compare to wilt...fine. Think it. At least make it about basketball. At least care enough to not repeat one never shifting argument 16 times a week if you care enough to make all these topics.

This shit is just disrespectful.

Well IF Mikan were truly greater than Wilt, then, by extension, he would have been considerably greater than Russell, Kareem, Hakeem, and Shaq.

We KNOW that a PRIME Wilt routinely shelled Russell and Thurmond, and we KNOW that an aging Thurmond limited a PEAKED Kareem to a career .447 FG% in nearly 40 starts, and with a HIGH game of 34 points. And that a 38-39 year old Kareem, in the course of TEN STRAIGHT H2H games with a 23 year old Hakeem, averaged 32 ppg on a .621 FG%, which included games of 40, 43, and 46 points. And that a PRIME Hakeem gave a young Shaq all he could handle in the '95 Finals.

Mikan >>>> Shaq

Mikan seems like what I can truly call an era-specific player. If you threw Mikan into today's game I doubt he'd go anywhere. Average size for today's game, slow, fairly clumsy, not an ounce of rim protection. Guy wouldn't even sniff the league today. He made his living being a man amongst boys in that early 50's era, before the game really evolved into what was in the 60's and what it is now.

Still a great player in his time though. Lot of respect for what he did to advance the game. He was a large part of why the game is the way it is now. True pioneer of the game.

All I'm saying is Wilt put up beast numbers against All-Time greats like Russell, Bellamy, Thurmond, Reed, ect and Mikan only against Neil Johnston and that was late in George's career. Ed Macauley in the earlier part of Mikans career.

It's quite clear.

Please list the HOF centers that Mikan dominated in his career. Hell, I can give you a player who never played in the NBA that outplayed Mikan...

Bob Kurland.

Now, how about Wilt...

Either outplayed, or dowright CRUSHED...

Lovellette, Embry, Reed, Bellamy, Unseld, Hayes, Thurmond, Gilmore (yes Gilmore), Lanier, Cowens, Russell, and Kareem...ALL in HOF.

Lol. So much passion in this thread. Internet basketball jockey.

People have ALWAYS played sports for love of the game, not for the money. Don't make Mikan out to be some sort of war hero. He chose that life. Only in sports are people so clouded in their judgement of finance. It is a business.

Why should we as fans care that Mikan didn't have money, when the players in the NBA don't even care? You don't think the players union would of brought up giving old stars etc some sort of pension if it was that important.

Additionally, let's not act like Mikan probably just had poor financial sense (like many sport athletes). Given his size, popularity and whiteness I'm sure he could of made a killing with endorsements etc etc.

There were plenty of scrub mcdub players who got hurt/injured/weren't stars who are 100x worse off than him.

At the time they played it was the best choice of a profession for someone their size. They played for love of the game, and the opportunity at the time.

All this post does is show that you, like many, value some people more than others. I feel much worse for the players that were middle of the road, and punished their bodies, without any remembrance, recognition, or glory.

Wilt bashing is fine. As an all time great it is a sign of respect. Lebron gets it, Kobe gets it, Durant gets it. Even the fact that he is trolled against is a sign of respect. No person, off the internet, that is knowledgeable about basketball doesn't think a 7'1 280+ mobile, fast athletic center wouldn't be a beast in the current era. How good is certainly up for debate as many of his flaws (such as free throw shooting) would be 10x magnified in this era.

Nat Clifton .

Mikan was outplayed by Bob Kurland in their collegiate match-up.

Kurland never turned pro, though.
