View Full Version : Why do we criticize players who get free throws

If a player is smart enough to draw fouls, even if they are bs, and go to the free throw line and shoot efficiently...why the hell is that something that should take away from them?

I don't mind guys getting free throws if they drive, but jump shooters getting 15ft in a game is ridiculous. Rip through move deserves a 15k fine every time a player does it

When Dwayne wade can jump onto you and automatically get FTs something is wrong with the system. When Kevin Durant can flicker his arms and get FTs something is wrong with the system. Every time James Harden snaps his damn head back like a bobble head he gets FTs, something is wrong with the system.

Wade is a little more fair though, the opposite player is generally making the first contact

Yeah, just standing there while Wade tries to go through the defender.

It has nothing to do with being smart.

Players like Kevin Martin, and Kevin Durant are clearly reffed differently. They're twigs, long and lanky, and the slightest bit of contact makes them flail, and makes the contact exaggerated on them.
I mean, there was one shot Durant made... I believe it was a game winner against Atlanta or someone... He pushes the defender who is guarding him extremely well off the ball, with two hands, in the middle of the chest as hard as he can, and gets no call. If someone did that to him, it's a tech.

Faking contact is poor sportsmanship. It's bush league.

Also, watching a guy fake contact and then shoot FT's is about the last thing I want to watch during a basketball.

Yes. Best part of the GIF is that Blake is actually mid flop from the ref contact. :oldlol:

I don't know.

Flopping has always been around, and I really don't think it is any worse now than it was back then. There is just more attention on it now because that is where the focus has shifted in terms of talk around the league.

Fans are always complaining about something. If fans pick up a hint of something that was over the top, they start looking for it in detail and make it out to be some huge, league wide problem.

It's just a crutch Lechoke stans lean on to prop him up over Durant.

Old post of mine on skills I look for....sums up my feelings on the matter.

13. Free throw shooting. Simple concept...I will not go into it. I will note that I said free throw shooting and not drawing fouls. Drawing fouls id say generally comes from the skills above leaving a man out of position....getting to the basket and being in traffic....not flopping, ripping through, or jumping into someone trying to make the refs give you something. I admit its effective these days.

But I never have and never will look for that quality in a player far as judging them. To me its almost like respecting the ability to travel just because its effective and the refs allow it. Sure....it works. Doesnt mean im seeking out players good at it. Game being called properly I dont think the current method of drawing fouls would even exist so I cant exactly rep it. Its barely even basketball to me.

Just because it works doesnt mean im considering it as a basketball skill.

you just had to throw lebron in there didnt you?
lebron flops about 3-5 times a season at MOST. he is so bad at it that he neve rgets the call too. cant even blame him because he doesnt get a call even when they break his nose.
Durant tries the rip through move 1-2 a game and flops another 2-3 times EACH GAME.
harden is even worse

Rip through isn't automatic free throws anymore. Stop fouling and stop getting into the penalty.

Should guys stop driving and stop doing their moves so refs don't call fouls? So stupid.

Blame the morons that keep reaching and keep fouling.
