He's too small to play the 4...to slow to play the 3.
I think he's similar to Wally Sczerbiak.

Larry Bird, with the benefits of modern training. So 35/14/10?

If Larry Bird played today, as slow and nonathletic as he is, he'd be on somebody's bench.

Wally's size was fine. So was his speed.

If Kyle Korver can start in the NBA, so can Doug McDermott.
That said, I think he'll end up being an effective bench scorer.

Haha hell no he wouldn't. He'd be averaging Dirk Nowitzki numbers with more assists.
I actually like McDermott's game. He can get his own shot which is something that's necessary for an outside shooter at the next level. With as much as teams have been looking for guys to stretch the floor I think he's going to have a solid career. I could see him being a 12-15 ppg kind of guy. Someone who is a solid 4th scoring option. If a guy like Ryan Kelly can start for the Lakers I see no problem with McDermott fitting in on a team. I think he's probably a little under rated right now since there's been mock drafts that have him outside the lottery.
He's definitely not too slow to play the 3. Plus he's long and moves his feet well. He came back for his senior season to work on his defense, and he's light years better now then he was last year.
His offense is so versatile. He does everything well.
He'll put up 17-20 ppg, maybe 7 rebs.
Solid 3rd option.

Knows NOTHING about McDermott.
Wally is a good comparison for him. Ceiling = Paul Pierce, realistic target = Wally, floor = Luke Babbitt.

Notowski is 7'0..he doesn't have to be athletic, he can shoot over top of you. There's a science to everything, Notowski has several advantages over Bird.
HE'LL Be a tyler hansboro with shooting range... nuthn else

Hansbrough is a PF. McDermott is a SF. They have completely different styles of play and play different positions. You can't even compare the two.

You think players today would do a better job than some of those players? :oldlol: While not being able to use half the physicality, and while he gets major superstar treatment? :oldlol:
Not to mention, dude could pass with the best of them, was major on the boards, played some really good D especially/mostly team, had overall intangibles through the roof..
He didn't even need to use much athleticism lol, 7'3, 35'' vert Ralph Sampson couldn't block his fader, right in his face: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LtpjCnOoO1Y
Dude was still killing it at age 35, with career ending injuries that most wouldn't even be playing with, overweight and with not much mobility left, against great, very athletic defenders, like Pippen, or Grant who was taller, or Cliff Robinson who was making all-defensive in the 00's...
K-Love's not even 6'8 w/o shoes and he's less athletic than Bird, plus less skilled and much worse impact/overall intangibles, imagine what Bird would do
Dirk's taller yea but not more athletic and doesn't have the same overall game/skill or even intangibles.
Timmy's still making all-nba 1st at 37, and he was never that athletic to begin with.
Carmelo's not as athletic as used to be.
Look at 35 years old Paul Pierce just last year.
Shane Battier was making all-defensive without being a great athlete.
.....
And you wanna make dumb statements like that? :wtf: :facepalm Someone ban this fool.
These ****ing ignorant children... Oh wait, you're talking about Bird right now? Sorry, if so yea I agree, dude's pushing 60 or so :lol

Dude, just ignore these troll/bait posts/threads. I used to get all pissed and go in on the trolls (I still do, but I resist the urge now), but there's no point. Their goal is to get a rise out of you.
I mean no disrespect and am not trying to tell you how to post, but there's nothing to gain from dealing with them. Just ignore them and move on.

Larry was seen as slow, unathletic and white even in the 80's but he managed to have one of better careers of all time.
This in a era where the game was much more fast and had much more talent, so yeah he could've bee a star today.

The next Chris Mullins!! Doug McBuckets should have a nice future in the NBA. Of course a lot depends on which team he goes to and how the coaching staff uses this young man's talents. But this dude has the chance to be really good to the point of being an All-Star.

at his height if he can play ANY defense he'll be getting run because of his shooting. Teams need shooting. Frank Kominsky is going lotto. Douggy Mcbucketts is going lotto.
Doug McDerrmott on the Heat this past season could be scoring 6-7 points in 10 minutes. Probably would be getting torched in the process.

Mcdermott is slightly overweight, and isn't as quick as Wally.
That was my point that Wally's size and speed weren't problems. He just got hurt really is all. And although McDermott looks kinda fat, I saw him pick his shirt up and he wasn't fat looking at all. I was surprised. He just has a really weird body and he's not fast tho at all.
