View Full Version : Tim Duncan has a chance to do something special this season...

Only two players in NBA history have 5+ titles and 15+ all-nba selections. Duncan can join them if he wins a title this season (14 selections & 4 titles.)

It's next to certain he's gonna get a selection, 5th title remains elusive but a healthy Spurs team can be very dangerous esp at home, and they'll prolly have HCA throughout the playoffs.

This might be his best chance at winning a title. Just too many good young teams in the west, and Pop can only do so much with an aging core once the season is over.

I'm not even sure they'll give him All-NBA honours this season. I could be wrong though.

If the Spurs want to win though Tim and Tony will need to turn back the clock. Well, Tony won't, he'll just have to stop playing like shit. Marco, Patty and Boris are going to need to continue this level of play in the post-season too.

That's going to be tough. I think the OKC is a bad matchup for the Spurs.

OKC matches up really well with San Antonio though.

It's definitely an uphill struggle. We can do it, but it's very unlikely. What's worse is we'll probably have to face Houston in the second round, another bad mathcup.

He sits out quite a few games, and at this point he isn't nearly the main the reason his team is winning.
And Parker is a better player now

He's missed like five games all season :confusedshrug:

And Duncan is better than Parker. Duncan's 15/10/3/2 whilst anchoring the defense > Parker's 17/2/6. Not to mention the fact that Duncan is still clearly the leader of this team (excluding Popovich).

If someone from the Spurs deserves All-NBA honours, it's Duncan. Of course he's not the main reason, because this is an incredibly balanced team. But it's not like any other individual player is more important than him.

He would get this award out of respect & putting up those numbers at his age. If we're talking pure statistics, he might not deserve it. But taking into account that he's doing what he does on the best team currently in the league, I'd give him all-nba 2nd team.

Yeah, there are definitely people with better statistics. But it'd be a bit weird if there wasn't a single Spur on the All-NBA team, considering they have the best record in the league :oldlol:

There's just nobody from the spurs that should get an all-nba honour.
15/10 should never land you an all-nba honour, doesn't matter how much of a legend you are.

Exactly. And It's funny to think that the best team in the league only has one all-star, who hasn't really played like one all season.

15/10 should be enough if Duncan is classified as a Center. There's no way he makes all-NBA team as a forward though, forward position is too stacked.

Marc Gasol made All-NBA second team (and deserved it) putting up 14/7.8 with 4 assists and 1.6 blocks in 35 minutes. His impact far outweighed those numbers.

Tims stats of 15.2/9.8 with 3.1 assists and 1.9 blocks in 29 minutes should be just fine.

So Noah doesn't deserve All-NBA this season? How many Centers are even putting up 10 boards per game?

But he's listed as a forward and has been playing PF. But then again, he's got many questionable selections since 2007.

i dont think duncan will make all nba over these front court players

- durant
- lebron
- melo
- love
- griffin
- george
- noah
- dirk
- dwight
- Ibaka

and this is also assuming they dont vote for anthony davis or aldridge cause theyel only play 70 games

so basically duncan wouldnt/shouldnt even make 4th team all nba ( if there was such a thing )

Duncan has played the most minutes and started more games than anyone else on the league's #1 overall seed. The stats don't back his case, but is he really having a worse season than players on losing teams putting up better numbers?

And I'm not just talking about team success here since clearly he isn't the sole reason why the Spurs are the only 60-win team right now but, he's the their best rebounder, defender, post-playmaker and all-around player, has scored the 2nd most points (by a hair,) and gives you 3 dimes and 2 blocks in less than 30 minutes.

He goes down, the Spurs front-line and entire defensive structure are all of a sudden weaknesses rather than strengths. He makes the Spurs lethal, and at age 37 that's an impressive feat, even for someone so accomplished.

I don't see how Ibaka has any case over Duncan. Duncan has better stats in fewer minutes as a more important part of a team with a better record.

If Duncan was sitting on a 48 win #6 seed I don't think he'd get it, but the sheer weight of wins for the Spurs should get both he and Parker a spot. Not to mention the general lack of depth at the center position.

It largely comes down to who he will be fighting against at the center position. Of your list, I'd say only Noah and Dwight are obvious centers, with Ibaka and Davis possibly in the debate as they are often the sole big man on the floor. The rest will be competing for the 6 forward slots.

If you're referring to Kobe, there hasn't been a single year where he got an all-nba honor undeservedly. Even 1999.

Come on, Tony hasn't had the dominant seasons he has over the past few years, but he's still averaging more points on better shooting than Duncan. It's like last night where he had 10 points on 4/4 in 9 minutes in the first quarter until he had to leave the game with back problems. He's not playing terrible, just not as good as we've see him in the past. Hoping he can stay healthy all through the playoffs this year though like he did until the Finals last year.

Obviously Tony is having a good season, but he hasn't looked that good for the past couple of weeks (excluding last night).

That's all I meant.

And did you hear? They think he might have a bulging disc :(
